I'm not really bothered about how much money will cost me to over meld cause I can afford it but that doesn't mean I'm not gonna use my brain or just throw my money away for the sake of a couple of extra points.

Overmelding for gatherer gear isn't really all that bad. I think I've just got one piece of armor that could take all tier 4 materia. Generally, it only needs one or two and the rest lesser materia. It's a lot nicer than crafting in that.
