Well paying is optional afterall. Plus this game has its own 6 month plan anyway which would presumably be discounted by the same amount as a 1 month plan.

The bickering had little to do with the concepts behind the thesis of the thread. It was just mutual misunderstanding. The thread itself was fine and should be taken for consideration aside from the fighting. You just didn't like seeing it bumped to the front all the time (as you said multiple times in the thread in question).

I'll pay if its 12 or 7 ^.^ but it wont hurt to have that discount though :P
He's a businessman, if he can get 15,000 players at $5 a month, instead of 4,000 players at $15 a month he will go with the 15k players at $5... not because more people will play the game, (that costs more $ to service) but because it will net $15,000 more a month.
Which is a good thing for the health and future of FFXIV.
I think $5.00/month sounds reasonable. It's a nice round number that most people wouldn't have a problem with.
If they're firm on the stance that they must start up subscriptions at this point, I'm overjoyed that they're considering a discount. As I've stated in other threads, my husband is fighting me on paying until 2.0.
And it's not because we're cheap. We drop money on video games all the time. We both have active WoW accounts (in fact, he has two so he can dual box), and I have an active Aion account. Right now he's playing offline games such as minecraft, Sim City and Batman: Arkham City.
It all comes down to a matter of principle. My husband is a business owner, and firmly believes that dissatisfaction should be expressed with your wallet. For that reason, he will never ever give NCSoft another dime of his money (Aion burned him pretty bad). And he does not believe that FFXIV is a product that is worth $12.99/month.
Again, it's not that we can't afford it, it's like someone said in another thread... it's like betraying your own sense of responsibility.
But if I can say to him, "It's only five bucks a month," I think he might concede.
There are a lot of players who still don't trust SE. Their plans for the future are still that, just plans. And to ask full price right now threatens to break that fragile trust and alienate players.
Isn't it better to compromise and keep more players, than be unbending and turn people away?

"because of the fighting" That's why I wanted it buried. the fighting just wouldn't stop.. nor let up I had my share.. but I just wanted it to stop altogether.. That thread it self had no Civilized talking.. just 2 sides clashing and it didn't stop "till it got locked"The bickering had little to do with the concepts behind the thesis of the thread. It was just mutual misunderstanding. The thread itself was fine and should be taken for consideration aside from the fighting. But im not going to start another argument here, so im going to drop it at that

The flip side is also true, if there is more money to be made in a smaller population @ higher prices, that is the win win.
My guess is the people hanging around for (1.9, 2.0) are more likely to stay than leave the game, and the higher price would have a lesser impact on their staying or leaving.
In addition, they also have to look long term, and if they don't see themselves charging @ $5 forever, they will likely not do it to begin with.
So, my guess is ~$15 is here to stay.
I'd be happy to pay full price, but I have two RL friends who play the game and neither of them want to pay full price. I'm torn.
I will believe this when it happens. Wada promised to overhaul the billing system when the player base for FFXI revolted against the current system. Since then the system has been implemented as is without a word coming from SE about potential changes.
