Sure, but while you're moving you aren't facing your target and thus your auto-attacks aren't going off at all. The small window you get when using skills isn't enough for all auto-attacks to land, and so for melee and pre-52 BRD/MCH lock-on is very helpful. For other classes (who don't rely on auto-attacks) it's not really important.

But I've used it heavily for years now, so I'm very comfortable with simply clicking it off instantly if I do need to move out of something very quickly, or move through my target. It's easy when you get used to it, and I do notice a DPS difference (became very obvious in FCoB).
