    Disable L3 lockon

I did make this suggestion ages ago and know a few others did.

could we please have an option to disable L3 from locking on to targets with game pads.

it's ultra annoying when you're trying to move away from a boss and stuck locked onto him... or in a couple of instances recently found accidently locking onto ozma while running meteors suddenly changes the direction of movement and weee ive gone off the edge....

I don't know anyone who uses lock on anyway outside of lazy mode autorun lockon to a friend and follow them through a dungeon while you grab a drink from the fridge...

You can already do this in the gamepad button configuration.

L3 has several things you can set it to. Lockon is the default. I have mine set to draw/sheathe weapon. Setting it to do nothing is also an option.

System Configuration -> Gamepad -> Button Configuration

But sure, I don't see why this shouldn't be an option regardless.
Really? every skill you use automatically makes you face the target anyway. and I generaly find it takes that much longer to get to the flank of a boss when you're locked on and strafing. I tend to find the freedom of movement improves my damage as I can get positionals that much faster

I'd say the L3 lockon is mostly used to quickly orient the camera when it's facing away from the current target. It's much faster and simpler to simply tap the L3 button on then off again than it is to rotate the camera with the analog stick. Plus it can be helpful learning positionals, though not every job has positionals. If you don't like L3 lock-on it you may disable it. But I encourage you to try it before disabling it.

Sure, but while you're moving you aren't facing your target and thus your auto-attacks aren't going off at all. The small window you get when using skills isn't enough for all auto-attacks to land, and so for melee and pre-52 BRD/MCH lock-on is very helpful. For other classes (who don't rely on auto-attacks) it's not really important.

But I've used it heavily for years now, so I'm very comfortable with simply clicking it off instantly if I do need to move out of something very quickly, or move through my target. It's easy when you get used to it, and I do notice a DPS difference (became very obvious in FCoB).

Its a good slot to place assist or sprint using the macro 98/99 options.

    /ac sprint

    /assist
