Why worry about a pet destroying the job, when stacking lancers on Ifrit will do more than enough damage. ^^
Put this in your sig if you do not want the dev team to have any control over anything!!!??!

So... out of curiosity, if Jobs are intended to further define character roles in large parties, why are people talking about how awesome soloing with a wyvern dragoon could be? Isn't that exactly the opposite of what the Jobs are supposed to be for?

no the opposite of this is.. that ... chosing dragoon as a job.. you dont chose a specific role. you still are a lancer with some of an extra skills. thats all. you dont really change your role, becoming a drg like it will implemented in 1.21
look at gladiator. he can chose to be a paladin who gains healing and supporting abillities. he really choses a role. and maybe in the feature he can switch to a damage dealer job like dark knight or so? thats what the jobs are really for.
chosing roles.. make differences between the basic class and the job itself.
and i can see no real difference between lancer and drg. because lancer is almost a drg.
like Conjurer is almost a whitemage. its only about the new class descriptions by the old FF14 Dev team.
the jobroles of gladiator (paladin) and archer (barde) are much more intense.
ah ok and why?
arent spells like these (which the con will get after 1.20 when they switch the skills between con and thm):
- Cure
- Curega
- Banish
- Dia
- Silena
- Slowga
- Proect/ra
- Shell
- Stoneskin
supposed to be typical whitemage skills? ah k.
that was what I as a whitemage in FFXI supposed to have.
it seems to me people are much more impressed by the new class names in FFXIV than the abillities and playstyle itself.
the old FFXIV team wanted to invent new class descriptions to the series... BUT with keeping the traditional FF Jobs in mind. SO thats why lancer is almost a drg, a puglist almost a monk and a conjurer almost a whm.
so why are you not satisfied enough playing a lancer if its almost the same playstyle? when i love wielding just a polearm and being a melee damage dealer (we see in ifrit fights) ... why i am not satisfied with the lancer job itself? dont get it. ok people want to be like "kain" in FF4

What makes WHM a WHM is the abilities to cure ailments and provide elemental defense. Cure etc is basic for a WHM.
Lets stay on topic Tonkra. No need to derail the thread.
OT:
What makes a Dragoon? You can research that in past Final Fantasy games. XI was the only one with a pet.

There are some people that seriously believe a Dragoon without pet would be Warrior with lances? Come on...
Sample Wyvern-less Dragoon Skill Set!
- Jump (duh)
- Super Jump
- Dragon Breaker
(these three could work exactly like XI)
- (Element) Breath - Conal breath attack (FFT Reis command)
- Dragon Breath - Conal breath attack, non elemental, deal damage based on target HP (FFIX Freya ability)
- Lancet (Drains HP / MP on hit) (Classic Dragoon command)
- Dragonheart (reraise skill with a high cooldown, if they ever add a reraise. FFT dragoon reaction ability)
- A few new skills.
There's your Dragoon-not-a-warrior.
Thanks AdvanceWind. although I wanted them to figure it out by themselves so they could slap their own face lolThere are some people that seriously believe a Dragoon without pet would be Warrior with lances? Come on...

That's nothing unique though. All that defined a Dragoon was Jump. Everything else numerous jobs (especially thanks to Tactics/TTA and XI) share the same kind of abilities.
So if you research Dragoon, the only defining feature of it is the ability to Jump as no other job throughout history had jump as a feature, much like the defining traits of a Thief is Steal/Mug and the ability to see hidden passages.

I am a little confused on this, and other threads, where proponents of the wyvern pet lambast naysayers for being "stuck on ffxi".
Dragoon was only ever a pet job in FFXI. It would seem that the wyvern proponents are the ones stuck on FFXI, and not the posters longing for Dragoon of the olden days, where Kain alone ruled the skies. :3
