Dragoon Poll (Should DRG have a Wyvern?)

I dunno where people come up with the whole "Dragoon is a Anti-Dragoon class so having a pet goes against this" I have played every FF under the sun except 12 because my ps2 exploded prior to its release. I never recalled any dragoons actually hunting and slaying all Dragons.

Hell even in lore Dragoons were spiritually attuned with Dragons and fought alongside wyverns. They never had them in the actual games (until XI which was horribly implemented) but it is written in the lore this way. While it is true that they do have an advantage should they come accross Dragon opposition being that they know exactly how a Dragon ticks having worked alongside their kind using them as mounts and allies in battle.

Not all Dragons are good and those are the only Dragons a Dragoon would actively hunt down and slay.

in FF14 dragoons come from ishgard. yoshi has already said the dragoons quest will speak about ishgard withouht taking you there. as they have big plans for ishgard in V2.0. we also know ishgard hates dragons. so purely going on the lore of this game alone it makes no sense for dragoons to have dragons

in FF14 dragoons come from ishgard. yoshi has already said the dragoons quest will speak about ishgard withouht taking you there. as they have big plans for ishgard in V2.0. we also know ishgard hates dragons. so purely going on the lore of this game alone it makes no sense for dragoons to have dragons

He said Dragoons will have abit of a tie in to the Dragoons of ishgard but they if you have seen them actually look more like the real life variation of Dragoon rather then the FF styled Dragoons. Most of them are mounted calvaray who instead of guns wield lances. Every single one of them has a chocobo by their sides. We are not going to Ishgard to become Dragoons, for all we know the unlock quest might have us stumble upon an ancient tome from many years past about this "Legendary Dragoon" of Ishgard who may have had a bond with a Dragon instead of "KIRR THEM ALL!"

Hell in XI(I know) the Dragoons had a bond with Dragoons and were killed off outta fear, same could have happened in IShgard by the higher ups and been covered up and altered because they feared the Man-Dragon bonds. This kinda story is cannon in the Dragoon lore since day 1.

Oh and yes I plan on picking up FF12, it tears me apart knowing it is the ONLY FF I havent played to this day. ; ;

This is actually similar to how I pictured it happening. Some legendary dragoon having a wyvern bond, and then we follow in his footsteps instead of the "kill all dragons" type. lol It could work perfectly well in the current lore.
This may be incorrect, but I heard someone say something before about a CNJ quest that involves dragoons and some wyvern statue or stone or something glowing and mentioning his master. :x I would like to know about this quest.. if it exists.

The quest you speak of is the rank 30 and 36 CNj missions (Spoilers ahead)

In the mission an Ishgard infrantry enter the shroud to conduct business with a Conjurer of the wild. A man who was taken by the elementals as a child for an unseen purpose whose home nation I would assume is Ishgard. After reaching the rendevous point the Ishgard Dragoon(calvary not class) isattacked by elementals after running in fear from what he thought was a dragon.

You save him, you meet him back at Owl's Nest where you see more Ishgard Dragoons (Again mounted Calvary not Dragon Knight Dragoons) where he thanks you, you mind fondle him to relive his memory of what happened and you see a amber statue that kinda-sorta resembles a Dragon. End of quest one

Quest 2 the Wild Conjurer wants you to escort him to Ishgard and after doing so is snatched away just at the map border by the elementals who tell him "Not yet...." and you meet him back at that statue where you mind fondle him and saw how he was taken by the wilds. He was attacked as a kid by a pack of wolves and after you save him an elemental flies out and takes him as their pawn for some unseen/unsaid plan. He asks if by "Not yet" do they intend to set him free one day to only be answered in silence.

There is the quest in almost full detail. from what I saw he Ishgard Dragoons are not apart of the REAL Dragon Knight class but the actual meaning of Dragoon in Japan which is Mounted Calvary.

My best guess is the Dragoons of old Ishgard were the real Dragon Knight style Dragoons that fell prey to someone's betrayal or some kinda misfortune and these new Dragoons of Ishgard are total Dragon hating extremist.

Just want to show everyone the picture here. Now Look at the Dragoon(Kain Highwind) Look at the Dragoon again. I don't see a wyvern around him. He certainly looks kickass, and anyone can tell that is a Dragoon. Even his title reads "Dragonslayer"

Thats a title that he obtained from killing some sorta NM that he liked and used it has nothing to do with the class unless warriors like Romeo(left side) kill any and all females they come across.

Thanks for the info on that quest. It sounds a little different from what I've heard, so I'd still like to see it myself. I have a character close to 30 CNJ. Just have to do some leveling~ :3

So we will be Dragoons NOT coming from Ishgard, and may have our own way of doing things.

I would still like to see SE try to give us all what we want. I would like to see the option to quest for a pet wyvern to fight alongside us. Without taking away from those who choose not to have it.
I'm not worried about the numbers in this poll. Many people were against jump (enough for Yoshida-san to acknowledge it), and it's still being implemented. Yoshida-san seems to be trying to make everyone happy in this game.
If they try, and balancing can't be done, and the pet can't be added in the end, well then it'll be time for me to move on to a new job.

(Of course, as I said earlier, I'm not asking for them to delay bringing the DRG job into the game. The jobs will be implemented before pet jobs. DRG will be implemented, and what I'm asking is when they're ready to bring pet jobs into the game, if they could please try to add an optional wyvern pet quest then to make the rest of us happy.)

i have thought of this point and from what i can tell there is only one guild in each city state. there is no reason to think its not going to be the same with jobs only having one home. if they do decide to go with dragoons having wyverns then chances are that dragoons are going to have to be renegade from ishgard. the problem with this idea is ishgard is not the empire. they are ally's

We know they have big plans for Ishgard.. I keep wondering how drastically Ishgard might change in the future. Though that has little to do with the topic of Dragoons having wyvern pets... unless at some point Ishgard feels they need wyverns and is forced to work with them for protection or something. Doubtful, but I can't help but wonder what will become of Ishgard in 2.0.

Also, slightly related topic: Yoshida-san spoke of possible dragon people. I wonder.. would Ishgard have to befriend dragon-kind then? To let those people in? Or perhaps they would be enemies? :3

from the snipets of information i have heard they have big plans for ishgard and these big plans are for players to take part in. they said the reason we are not getting ishgard till after 2.0 is coz. with this game engine we are restricted to less than 50 players on screen. and their plans are much bigger than that. i don't know what they are, if i had to guess i bet its got something to do with killing dragons and who knows maybe that will be the release of bahamut primal (but i'm getting ahead of myself there) my main point is do you want to be locked out of this major content, just so you get a wyvern?
