This has become an ongoing issue for me. I have Windows 10, but it's been perfectly stable until patch 3.3. In the last few weeks, I've crashed every other day at the bare minimum despite just yesterday updating my Nvidia drivers.

In your users folder you'll find a folder called my games. In there is a final fantasy 14 folder which has all your settings gearsets hotbars macros and screenshots
Just copy the entire directory ando back it up somewhere.
going to try a clean install of the game and see if that works . some people seem to have had luck with it. and can't find a check files option in the client anywhere

mine has been randomly crashing since 3.3, with the "Stopped working" message. i've checked my drivers and what not, but i can't really say that it was that. i mean i did have the game on win 8 around christmas, but it wasn't randomly crashing, but this was pre 3.3 patch, so...*shrug*

I reinstalled the whole game yesterday and I'm still getting this very same error message. It's happened twice now just this morning.

I'm using Windows 7, but I've noticed this crash error happen twice just now in Revenant's Toll while selling junk to a vendor. In fact, when I entered the town after doing leves, the sound of footsteps began stuttering and I noticed sudden framerate drops whenever other players walked into view. This happens a lot whenever I go to certain hub areas like Revenant's Toll, Gold Saucer, or especially Idyllshire, though rarely causes the "FFXIV has stopped working" hang (mainly because I often log out and log in when it occurs).

I think I found a way to fix this. Windows 10 runs Directx 12. Since FFXIV is preset to Directx 11, it doesn't like 12. When you first open the program. Hit the config gears before you enter your login and password. There is a button that allows you to turn Directx11 support on or off. Mine was on. Once I turned it off and tried to log back in, the error went away and I was back in the game. If this works for you, send me a tell on the Balmung Server (Mau Wie).
This is just wrong and not helpful. If you turn DX11 off, the game is using DX9, all DX versions are compatible with Win10. Ofc it may be the solution for your problem, but its not a real solution to turn something off, that is intended to work fine.I think I found a way to fix this. Windows 10 runs Directx 12. My first crash seems to be on 10.07.16, so i assume the it may be this one:
https://support.microsoft.com/de-de/kb/3170411
And this is as part of the Insider Preview, how about the others in here? Are they Insider ?

Did a complete reinstall myself a few days ago. Thought it was fixed but had the error 5 times in the last 2 days.
Looks like I'm stuck using direct x 9 till the devs look into this and fix it. It seems to be a fairly widespread issue

Small necrobump but think I've fixed this. at least in my case.
what I've done is turn off NVidia shadowplay (never used it anyway) and went into the NVidia control panel and disabled vsync entirely. (a tip I found on a Microsoft community related to games in general)
since doing these things I've been running almost 2 weeks without a single crash. so if still having issues it might be worth a try

I have the same problem. I have performed a clean installation of Windows 10 , but the game does not work, when I give a start closes. If I worked before . I have everything updated . Any solution? These are the specifications of my computer :
Windows 10 Pro 64 bits (6.2, compilación 9200) (14393.rs1_release.160715-1616)
AMD FX(tm)-8320 Eight-Core Processor (8 CPUs), ~3.5GHz
AMD Radeon R9 280 3GB
8GB Memory RAM
