heal me at 99% and afk if you like, I actually don't care (in dungeons), but please don't tell me you aren't a bad healer if you do it.

I don't see where she said she heals you at 99% HP and afks.

I do the same thing she does. That's how I like to play my game. Nobody is going to change that and I could give a crap less what random people on the internet call me for playing this game how I want (seriously). I like the OP's idea even though it would probably lower my incentive bonus. To me, a bonus is a bonus. If I get it in this game (before someone makes RL comparisons), cool. If not, I was fine without it.

That's basically it. You can get the same amount of exp / tomes you always get by doing nothing but healing. You might even get a bonus doing that if the rest of your group is playing so poorly / taking so much damage that your healing contribution skyrockets. But to consistently get a bonus, you'd want to do what's optimal for the group. If you don't get a bonus or don't care about the bonus, no big deal. The proposal is after all just to motivate as many people as possible without punishing anyone for playstyle.

Apologies if I came across as overly cynical, I'm just tired of people using "I play how I want" as an excuse to shut down ideas like this. She might not play that way, but she supports the idea of playing that way regardless. I also play this way sometimes, because I am a bad healer, sometimes I struggle to think on the fly and end up over healing or over DPSing, and that is where a system like this shines, because it encourages me to focus and improve.

As I said before, I'll direct my "I don't care how you play" to you, just please don't use it to put yourself above the 3-7 other people in your group (as I will explain below).

Let me unravel this little comment right here with some math.

$12.99 * 1 (you) = $12.99
$12.99 * 3 (the rest of your party) = $38.97
$12.99 * 7 (the rest of your party in 8 man) = $90.93

We all pay subs, that doesn't mean that we don't rely on other players learning to play their job right. That doesn't make being hateful right, but that doesn't mean that paying your sub puts you above the rest of your party, as combined they pay far more into their sub than you do.

What he's saying is:

If you don't dps in some dungeons/situations and depending on group, you're either overhealing a lot (bad healeing usually) or only using 30% or less of the battle time a global CD (bad playing).

A lot of it too is people in general really need to come up with some kinda standard expectation when it comes to healer's doing DPS. Either yay or nay. I used to love healing but one can only take so many ping-ponging expectations before its time to throw in the towel.

Join Group A) Do my normal buffs and stuff. Dungeon starts, everyone is good and not in any danger of death, its safe to start DPS. I do and promptly get screamed at for DPS'ing and not healing...even if um, no one needs healing.

Join Group B) Um, okay so no one seems to want a healer DPS'ing so I'll just sit and do nothing but heal this time. Dungeon starts, everyone is okay...I get screamed at for not DPS'ing. \._./

Everyone except bad healers who don't want healers to DPS want healers to DPS.
Unless your DPS causes the team to die because you couldn't heal (so just be mindful of timing).

Please, for the love of all that is /ac Holy, DPS if at all possible. It's the difference between a mediocre healer and an awesome one.

Lemme ask then, if we queued a dungeon together and I decided to stop dodging AoEs because it can wreck my damage as MNK or get in the way of jumps on DRG, would you be content healing through all that extra damage?
