Feel free to elaborate. It's always best to maintain Enoch but if you have to drop it to not die or because of boss jumps then that will be the case. I still think outside of the masochistic Extreme/Savage content it is really difficult to not keep Enoch up. I dunno what it is but I always find BLM just easy to play.

what is hard to play outside of extreme/savage content? Everything else is doable easily with 2.0 rotations

Just my opinion, but spamming fire1 is not "decent dps". Should be aiming to maintain enoch uptime as much as possible

Can only speak from "plays occasionally as offspec" PoV:

While I prefer the 3.0 rotation by far over the mindless mashing in 2.0, I do agree that it is WAY to strict and encounters go "nanana nothing to attack here!11" far to often.
If you don't have all these encounter timings in your blood (which you don't if you main a healer, like me b/c they are mostly irrelevant to us) BLM feels quite frustrating.

Fire IV and Enochian came up in some chat the other night. Another person and I made the statement that while Fire IV is fun, an ability to even cast that spell in the first place is not a fun mechanic in terms of how a BLM feels like they should play. The counterargument, rather than something based on some sort of logic around how Enochian brings more to the job or staves off boredom or something, was "git gud" and accusations that anyone who doesn't like the Enochian mechanic just isn't good at the job. It seemed quite incomprehensible to them that you can be good at the job / handle Enochian well but have criticisms of it.

At any rate, the jump to personal attacks and accusations rather than a defense of their point of view reminded me of why in-game debates are usually terrible.

Can we drop this bloody debate already? There's a reason that SE decides these things, and fixes accordingly.

Enochian is to make the class a little bit more advanced, as it is with most progression. Learning how to use said abilities comes with time.

As for the matter at hand, here's a question: Do you want to take avoidable damage or not? Because if you stand there and finish casting while it's about to hit you, you're taking avoidable damage(which may or may not be mitigated by your two other abilities). It's not always about the big DPS(albeit it's somewhat necessary at times to push hard).

refreshing enoch seems really clunky to me, if it worked like botd i dont think itd be so frustrating, speaking of which why do both jobs have skills locked behind a timer...couldnt have enoch been like dreadwyrm where the mp cost of fire 4 was reduced and damage amped up? I guess that would make blm more boring though huh

If you're forced to move, you should use an instant ability followed by off global cool down abilities during your non-casting time.

For example, in Titan Extreme, you see a large circle on the ground. You decide to move! The first thing you should do is check to see if your thundercloud or fire starter traits are active. If those traits are active, you cast Thunder III or Fire III. If those traits are not active, you cast Scathe or Swiftcast something helpful like lightning or Blizzard III. While you're running, you spam non global cooldown abilities. Your non global cooldown abilities have expanded near level 60, and they now include Quelling Strikes, Sharpcast, Enochian, Raging Strikes, Swiftcast, Convert, Ley Lines, Virus, Eye for an Eye, Apocatastasis, Aetherial Manipulation, Manawall, Manaward, Sprint, and Lethargy. Choose wisely which abilities you want to use based on the situation!
