You said that your DPS triples by the time you finally get how to play around the fight. While I already knew this was an exaggeration, if you only do like 100-200 DPS less than your maximum, you are truely a very remarkable BLM player. An exception even amongst the best, especially if it only takes you 2 pulls to figure everything out and start outperforming everyone by "hundreds of DPS", as you said (is this another exageration?).

Now, you said that slow learners will hamper the progression of their group no matter what job they play. While that's true, the degree of which this will be a factor varies from a job to another. In that regard, BLM is with no doubt the worst offender of all DPS jobs as its rotation is almost completly driven by the pace of the fight and its mechanics. In comparison with the job I main, SMN, it's like night and day. If you think that SMN only boils down to DoT upkeep, you cannot be more wrong (even it that's ovbiously a part of the job). The amount of screw ups allowed for that job while still performing at a high enough standard is mind boggling, whereas BLM punishment is almost instant on everything you can (and will) f**k up. In short terms, the DPS of a SMN will never be allowed to plummet as hard as a BLM's. In fact, no DPS job will ever be even close to the BLM in that aspect (not in 3.x at least).

Whatever the case, in ARR BLM was one of the most easier and rewarding job to play. In Heavensward, they made it the complete opposite. You don't feel "rewarded" playing it. At most, if you can execute your rotation properly, you feel relieved of not screwing up. These are two very different feeling, but often mingled by many.
I'm not saying that you cannot or shouldn't like that feeling, mind me, but that this and being rewarded are simply different, which is why you can say things like "not every class is for everyone anyways".

Yeah yeah yeah that- you get the green flash thing that creates a rock graphic to pretty much one-shot you unless you move away from where you are, and you get the 3 angle-sensitive blue blobs that pretty much requires you to be running the whole time, not to mention the marked-dealer-goes-to-Southeast thing, etc etc etc

Former BLM main here. I got tired of playing with a handicap (Because that's what it feels like to me now) so switched to WHM and I have no regrets. I even used my BLM zeta to start my WHM anima! If you like it, all the power to you, but most people I talk to today hate it and won't touch it.

Okay so you're talking about last phase. For the rock-graphic you can pre-position at the DPS marker after the towers with swiftcast and then AM to the center if you don't have the mark or slidecast from the yellow aoe if you do have the mark.

For the blue ping-pong part all the other dps are equally at a disadvantage except maybe brd & machinist. The best you can do here is sharpcast or swiftcast or procs if you have em otherwise scathe.
