    Turning down the flashiness...

    Good afternoon,

I'm just returning to the game from a long hiatus. That is why I am posting in the new player help forum. My question is this... This game is so dang bright and flashy... Every character has moves that basically make it so I cant see my character. I just bought a brand new gaming laptop so I have all my settings on high and am consistently at 90 fps. I cant see anything on my screen though in raids or parties because everyones actions are so bright. This is frustrating because you often have to stand in specific places.

Is there any way to turn the brightness of actions down without compromising the quality of the graphics? I love the game, which is why I bought the new computer. Ffxi was not nearly this bright. Please help...

You can turn off people's actions in the Character Settings.
It'll turn off the action completely though, not just turn it down.

Clearly, the best Final Fantasy character is Locke Cole.

Also, for what it's worth, the "Show limited effects" means that it only plays the audio, so you'll still get an idea of who's doing what. ;]

One thing though. Although turning down the battle effects settings removes some of the flashiness, the bright colored glows that surround all characters with practically any move they make cannot be turned off. In crowded situations, these alone are enough to obscure vision. (In less crowded situations, they only hinder immersion.)
