    About a certain website...

I'm not entirely sure how much I can say about it since I've heard different things regarding the use of third-party tools, but I'm a bit confused by it. I see that I've been recorded before in various instances (Void Ark, Bismarck and Ravana EX, Midas Normal), but I can't make anything of the bars there. What's a perf. score? Perforation? Perfection? All stars? I see a bunch of numbers in gold and red and blue but no color coding. About the only familiar number is DPS but since I don't really play with these tools or record I have no idea what numbers are "good" or "bad". Or if there's anything that reflects if I've been locked out of a fight or disconnected midfight or anything. I've looked around but the site's help page doesn't help any, although I AM relieved to see there IS a way to take it down considering I never made any of those recordings or consented to them.

So my apologies about the ambiguity, but is there somewhere I can go that I can learn to read this information so I can maybe make use of it?

Perf. score is simply performance score. Perf. % tells you your rank (as a percentage) compared to all others of the same job that have been recorded. So if you look at one of these "recordings" and you have a perf% of 80 next to your name, it means you are top 20% dps for your job for that particular encounter.

Thanks, that's helps a little. My silly self also just now realized there's more than just that one graphic in there and I can actually click on stuff in the table. So I'm trying to make sense using the other graphs.

Again though, since I don't use these things, I'm not sure if I can tell what's "good" or "bad", although the performance score gives me a sort of relative idea of it.

EDIT: If it helps any, I play summoner as my primary job, and have recently begun playing bard more and more. When it comes to which I play, however, I consider bard to be my more "fun" job and as such haven't actually practiced or optimized rotations with it, meaning my bard tends to see more lower level content, where Wanderer's Minuet isn't available, or in 24-man raids, where I tend to have issues with my pets.

Click Damage Done and look at the Percentile number next to your name. If it's near 100, you're good. If it's near 0, you're bad. If it's over 50%, you're better than most.

The top scores (100%) are usually recorded by people with optimized party setup and strategy, highest possible gear, food, potions and rotation optimized for each encounter. If you're wondering what's a good performance score for yourself, look at your own runs in that light. What is your ilvl and gear, are your stats optimized? Did you use food and potions? Did your party skip any mechanics or push phases in a way that might increase DPS? Did your party have NIN, AST, BRD (for casters) or MCH (for melee)? How perfect was your rotation? All of those aspects are going to lower the maximum possible DPS you could have, if not optimized.

Ok, thanks. So... if I were to ask myself if I should continue with bard or drop it like a rock (same with SMN), what would I be looking for? From what I can tell there's a small spread of recordings on there, so it's a bit difficult for me to really spot any trends. Maybe the most was Ravana at 9 kills (probably a PF farm). Not to mention... SO MUCH DATA. I see the percentile numbers, but there's like 5 or 6 different ones for what looks like each boss and each recording. About the only sore spot that catches my eye at the moment seems to be A7, and just one run where I'm apparently 11%.

Or is this just something I should keep checking in on when random people do this?

Do you enjoy the class or not? The more you do something, the better you get at it.

To evaluate yourself, learn what you should be doing, then compare your data to see if you're doing it or not. There's a lot of guides, theorycrafting, videos and spreadsheets out there. Nobody's going to spoon-feed the information to you.

There's no 'one specific thing' you should be looking for. Look for everything.

    Good luck on your journey.
