If they're going to change the lore pretty drastically in 2.0, then for company and stuff yes, if not then no. The rest of the facial and character creation features I'm 100% for, new engine, I need to see what I should look like in it before I log in game and tweak stuff, I prob won't change race but people should have the right.

I think this is the case, while I know for some it messes with the world / characters it should at least be a option, depending on how they look I may change my Miqo'te.

Concerning gender switching: As others have pointed out, a lot of people chose a female Miqo'te because the male ones weren't available. There should be a one-time gender change option.

Just wanted to clarify just a tiny bit: The comment from Yoshida during the LIVE video was mainly geared toward being able to change gender, specifically. Not so much about being able to change race. He was talking about changing from a Roegadyn male to a Miqo'te male being relatively understandable ("hey you lost weight!") but that it might be shocking to go from Roegadyn male to a Lalafell female.

It was vague in our Twitter post about it, so I'm hoping to dispel the misinformation now.

I think when people talk about switching genders, they are primarily talking about switching to the currently inaccessible genders (male miqote, female highlander, or female roegaedyn). Since it was never an option before it would be kind of unfair if you weren't allowed to switch to them when they came out. Especially since people have been demanding these since beta. People feel like they should have been able to choose these from the beginning and so to tell the players "Well ... we could, but it doesn't make sense!" would kind of be a slap in the face.

I think a fair compromise would be to allow gender/race swapping only to the newly released genders/races. In addition you should only be allowed to do it once, however I think there should be a grace period where you can revert back to your old character if you decide you liked your old one better.

Ok that clears up a little on the gender vs race thing. Thanks for that.

On a side note, do they realise we want the name change as a one time thing? Not a change whenever thing? This could solve the name length thing.

The only people that should be worried about whether or not a gender change is shocking is the player themself.
Would it really be game breaking to anyone else if i decided i really did want to be a female Miqote after ive seen how awesome they are in battle?

Allow people a one-time change of everything about their character except for city-state and grand company.

Like people have said, it's not fair that new races will become available that more than a few would have picked if they were available from the start. I don't see myself changing race or gender, but I know some that would and they were banking on this being available once the devs mentioned that they were working on implementing this when the new races were available. There's no reason not to allow it just this once, it would make a whole lot of the playerbase extremely happy and would give greater confidence in the devs.
