I fished for Perch a handful of times since the last big patch. Did they quietly adjust the RNG on these?

My gear is better than before the patch but now about 75% of my perches aren't even close to collectable quality (400's). I get about one collectable fish in 45 minutes. This was outside of the "optimal" perch time but I've never had issues like this before. Before the patch, I was getting 3 or 4 of collectable quality in under 30 minutes.

I do mid-range food, spiders, patience I, release all NQ, mooch HQ crickets, powerful hookset.

Sure, but I haven't been back long enough to build a stockpile of blue scrips to buy Brute Leeches. Chicken vs. Egg.. unless I'm missing something.

One Illuminati Perch should be enough to get you a stack of Brute Leeches, if you can manage that.

Or, if you have any other gathering classes levelled, just one Cuprite or Morel would also do the trick.

RNG can often be a pain though - sometimes I manage to get 7 or 8 Perches in a couple of Patience sessions, while others I'm lucky to bag 2. What gear do you have?

60 Blue scrips will get you 50 Brute leeches. After that, you'll earn more scrips than you can spend in leeches.
If you can't catch more than 1 fish in 50 casts, something is really wrong and I'd bet is the way you use (or actually don't use) Patience and Patience II.

In fact, you should even be able to make a decent profit by buying both Brute leeches and Hi-cordials (even if it'd be better to craft you own HQ cordials instead).

What gear do you have?

Almost done the base Trailblazer set (need pants), a level 60 merchant rod, and pre-3.0 accessories.

I don't really have a plan for gear after these pants. I still need to do the level 60 fishing quest and figure out accessories.

Perch 'HQs' were that low while in Patience? Or were those low collectability HQs from vanilla cast?

Was your character reeling the Perch in with the 2 handed HQ animation or normal NQ animation? If it was a HQ reel-in while under Patience, might have a gear issue, IDR that ever happening to me.

Sometimes Patience can fail silly and just not HQ cuz RNG.

Low collectability HQ reel-ins via vanilla cast is pretty common, even at i180. I haven't noticed anything different tbh
