    "Queue as any class/role"

I wish there was an option to just queue as whatever class/role is needed. Sure, there's a "We need tanks" notice on each DF roulette, but in general I think having an option to be automatically assigned whatever is needed could make queues go faster, especially for those who only have healer/DPS. Especially if you want to queue as a party, but happen to pick the wrong combination of roles so get left out longer when you could have just been switched to the necessary roles.

Only if it was toggled. If I queue for Ast XP and get put in as Drk, I would be upset. But to toggle, I can be crafting and when my queue finally pops, it switches me.

From the very beginning I've always wondered why the DF didn't let people do this.

Well yeah, obviously you would have to be able to set up beforehand which classes you are okay with it selecting. If it just put you in as anything you have that would discourage a lot of people from leveling alternate classes!

It will always be need tank. There is no question. Even if you are waiting as a tank, its just trying to match you with another tank.

It's a fun idea, but Derio is right on this point. Sadly this feature wouldn't mean much to anyone who includes a tank role as one of their options (which is the role that most needs filled).

For example: In my case my choice is "Do I queue as Paladin or as a Machinist?" If this feature was implemented and I told the game I could go as PLD or MCH, I would always be assigned PLD. So using the feature would be no different for me than just queuing as a Paladin outright. My choice after the feature was implemented would still only be "Do I queue as Paladin or Machinist?" I could never queue as both and ever expect to play MCH.

I wouldn't mind an auto-fill role option for DF. As long as I get to tick which classes I wanted to be queued as for preferential or leveling reasons.

There would be a minor complication in that many duties have a minimum iLv requirement, and so any multi-role queue system would have to be coded to consider your gear levels, most likely using your gear sets. For example, if my gear sets went
    1. BLM 230
    2. SMN 225
    3. DRK 210
    4. PLD 215
    5. WAR 210
    6. AST 215
    7. SCH 200
    8. WHM 200
    9. MCH 185
    10. BRD 185
    11. NIN 185
    12. MNK 180
    13. DRG 180

It would have to tell DR:Expert (200 requirement) something like "gear sets 1-8 okay; here are the roles for each gear set".

Alternatively (and preferably, I'd say), would be to designate a set of gear sets, maximum one per role, before you queue. So I might choose something like
    • Tank: None (perhaps I don't want to tank this roulette)
    • Healer: set 6
    • Ranged: set 1
    • Melee: none
to indicate that I would like to AST or BLM. This would require a far less complicated matching algorithm than the former system that just considers the whole set of gear sets.

And still another possible issue would be the ability that people currently have to cheat the iLv requirements by wearing inappropriate accessories (and it does happen -- I have seen on more than one occasion casters in all STR/DEX accessories or DoWs in all INT/MND accessories). While this has been an existing potential situation since the dawn of iLv requirements, a multi-role queue system would make it even more tempting and easier for people to assign gear inappropriately in order to get a shorter queue time, and so consideration would have to be given to locking accessories to their intended roles.

Here's how I would implement it:
    • Allow queueing as multiple classes/jobs (not roles) at the same time.
    • The above should be limited to one job per sub-role (melee, magic, ranged, tank, healer).
    • If you queue in more than one job, the role that most fits the party you're joining will be chosen.
      • Example: If you queue as DRK, WHM, BRD, and DRG, and you're chosen to join a party consisting if 1 tank, 1 healer, and 1 mage, your queue will probably pop as DRG.
    • In order to join on multiple jobs, you have to register specific gearsets for each job into the DF.
      • If your registered gearset for a particular job doesn't meet the minimum ilvl requirement for the duty, then you may not queue to that duty as that job.
      • If you're not queueing on multiple jobs, you should be able to queue on your current job (only) based on the equipment you're currently wearing.

    Thoughts?

Dancer is a physical hybrid melee/range class, not a true ranged class. I love it.

    Sounds like a cool idea!

Can you imagine how hilarious it would be if it bugged out though? I'd queue as "any class" for trial roulette and get Titan HM....as MINER! I'd mine the crap outta him... you have no idea! Then get Leviathan as FISHER!... I'd catch that sucker... You know I would! Then do lvl60 roulette and get Saint Mocianne's Arboretum as Botanist! I'd harvest that whole dang place... those Morbols wouldn't stand a change to my scythe!
