Not really. All good fantasy worlds are based upon some kind of internal logic that explains how and why things work the way they do. You can put the most awesome-looking elements inside a fantasy world, but if the audience doesn't perceive the world as convincing - as real, if you want - it's worth nothing.

You (almost) never want to mix and match styles, that's true for the art design as well as for story and content. Needless to say, riding flying eyes does not work all to well with the current image of Eorzea. It might work with what they have in mind for 2.0, but that's another story. A story I probably don't want to experience...
