Funny how in your AF body fight said DRG wasn't tied down by his pet.

Are we talking about FFXIV AF? Or am I missing something. I haven't done that quest yet so don't spoil anything else if so.

If you mean in FFXI, CLEARLY Dragoon was a balancing nightmare and the Dragoon himself was weaker than he would have been since the Wyvern added so much. I'd much rather DRG be the power houses they deserve to be, and if it's really that important to have a pet dragon/wyvern, then just create another dragon based class/job.

How about this: a temporary buff, like Spinning Heel, that summons the wyvern for 20 seconds, and a similar cooldown (2 mins). While out, it will auto attack your target.
Please no. Go big or go home. If you're going to give a class/job a pet dragon/wyvern, do it all the way and not some half-way compromise.

Yep I am, you'll see what I mean.

Otherwise we're just a glorified hopping lancer. (IMO)
That's all DRG is now, which is why they're adjusting it.

Keep in mind as I post this, my lancer is only 15 and my dragoon in ffxi was around 30ish. Regardless of a pet or not, I might not level it. However just because I dont level a job, doesnt mean I cant appreciate it.
May not be my place to say, but I hope Dragoon does get a pet...or some extreme buff for flying enemies. Thats from just FF lore love, even 11...which is why I bought this game, for FF, even XI.

To suggest we shouldn't or should put something in just because it was in FFXI is foolish in my opinion. Many things to me I do believe XI got right, had it right and screwed it up, or eventually had it right.
For example, although it didn't play a big part in XI, I liked how many advanced jobs had some buff against different kinds of enemies. It added some strat ontop of SC and elemental bonuses.

As for the pet itself, I thought it was a nice addition to XI. That and summoner (and pup later on). I hardly touched these jobs myself, all three around 30ish...however it was great to see them on my team. It made them look more unique and made me feel more unique for being my role. I've read through alot of these pages, and the most I'm seeing more or less against the pet is just because XI did it. Although I agree one a few that not all drgs in FF had pets, it still believe it'd be great to have.

I think we need pets in one way or another. We need to somehow make these classes more unique. I question how classes and jobs will be at 2.0 (I personally believe...not hope...but believe classes will be wiped for their job counterparts), but again I hope they do get the pet.

I don't particularly want one as a combat aid but it'd be nice to have one as a cosmetic thing that was DRG-exclusive - maybe even a DRG-only mount at some point as well?

The problem with one as a combat aid has already been pointed out - it would make the DRG too weak alone. Maybe the Wyvern could be incorporated into some attack animations, though? That wouldn't be too bad.

can my WHM have a Priest from WoW as a tiny pet? it should give me random compliments, and hand me food when I'm hungry.

As for special attacks, it can do breath attacks upon combo completion, or you could have its breath WS as a final hit in a combo (instead of Chaos, RoT, etc).

Later on, have an ability or perk that lets you take it's TP for yourself (or when it unsummons).

Idk, just brainstorming. Save the tomatoes.

I'm sure this has been said elsewhere (multiple times) in the thread, but I feel compelled to also speak up in disagreement about a pet for DRG.

Considering how FF14 is taking on the lore from the old games (at least job-wise) I really hope they don't give DRG wyverns, no matter how much the user base begs.

By doing so this game opens up to becoming FFXI-2 which is not the direction it should be heading at all. If people want a DRG with a wyvern, go play FFXI.

    Simple as.

I'm fine with that, but I still think there's a place for "dragon attacks" in the lore. What about a move that summons a dragon (or a spirit of one) that shows up to do a single big hit (post 50, after cap raise)? It would be similar to SMN style attacks (Odin, etc), rather than a constant pet.

Breath attack (various elemental bonuses - DoTs to heals)
    Dive bomb (bind, heavy, etc)
    Tail sweep (stun)
    Wing snap (knock back, interruption)

You could even tie in job quests to acquire the dragons/moves.

My friend, I have been a Dragoon fanboy ever since Kain. And I do admit that a bit of a dragon aura aesthetic certainly could be added at a later point in time (Freya was my favorite! And look at how some of her abilities are styled), the only dragon I want to see my Dragoon summoning is the friggen Dragon Primal after my Free Company has his flesh for dinner and scales for armor.
