DPSing as a healer

I sometimes out dps other dps classes on my WHM and still keep people topped off flawlessly.
Unless you are laying down on the side and playing on a console eating a bag of potato chips, there is no reason for you to not dps in any given situation.
There are few "down time" in between trash pulls where your mana is low... then you can save your resource for heals.

Why not play ANY class to their maximum potential?

1. Not everyone has the same skill level as you.
2. They are paying "customers" and can't be prohibited to play one of the classes because they lack the skill to follow the meta.
3. You can still kick them for not having enough skill to be in your DF party (though personally I think this makes you an a**)
4. As long as they are trying their best even if they're struggling while only healing, I don't think anyone has the right to label them as bad (but that's just me and my education :P)

I may try my best at juggling but I'm still terrible at it. Sometimes things really are just objectively bad.

But that still doesn't mean they should "give up and find another job or another game", like someone said in this thread.

No, you're absolutely right. they have a right to be bad.

But they don't have a right to be objectively bad and simultaneously claim they are good and try to persuade people that lazy play is actually good play.

And I do have the right to kick them (I personally wouldn't unless they were prohibitively bad at healing to the point where we couldn't clear, but I do have a right to). And I respect other people's right to as well, and I'm not going to judge them or call them expletives for it either.

Yes, no one is saying that Healers can't be bad or terrible at the game.
The issue is the entire "being bad is totally good" that Healers and only Healers have.

If I'm a juggler, and I suck, no one is going to pay me to juggle. I can juggle all I want, but when I do it in front of others badly, I would expect them to laugh or tell me I'm terrible. I wouldn't argue that actually I'm a super amazing juggler and I'm the best at juggling.

No one says that. What we say is that people should not laugh and tell that you're terrible, or even remove you from what you're doing, because at the very least, you're doing the minimum required by keeping people alive.

The internet is not your safe space. You cannot demand people treat you well simply by asserting it loudly and often.

People do not give respect by request. People earn respect by showing effort. If you don't want people to kick you, try putting forth effort and earning that treatment.

Completely disagree. There are different types of respect. Some can be earned, sure. For example, in order to be respected specifically as a great healer, then yeah, you better put in the effort to justify it. However, in order to be respected as a player, and you know, a person? This respect should not be earned, because just by breathing we all should already have it.


Of course, certain behavior will make you lose respect for someone, but if your status quo is not respecting anyone until they earn your subjective notion of respect, then I'd say you have big social problems.

For the record, I am a big advocate of healer DPS. I'm one of those who curses under his breath when someone takes unnecessary damage and forces me to come out of CS. But I am a much, MUCH bigger advocate of civility, empathy and understanding. One shouldn't have to demand to be treated well. People treating others well should be the damn norm. With the exceptions being either being treated like shit for actually earning it with terrible behavior, or being treated extraordinarily well for putting great effort and hard work.

That's pretty much exactly what the zero DPS healers have said.
"I'm great at my job, really good at it" despite being objectively terrible.
