Well, doing huge damage and then using the emergency heals (I'm assuming you mean Bene, ED, Lustrate) when the tank is low is the best way to play since it optimizes party DPS and limit break gauge building. It's also quite thrilling for the tank.probably the same way the 0 HPS damage dealer crowd is hitting really aggressive HPS checks?
but for real: i am not totally against doing damage as a healer. it's my job to bring the party alive through the content, no matter what. and when i have to dps to reach that goal i will doing that dps.
what bothers me is staying 90% in cleric and only healing 10% of the time. and also there is a difference between doing dps while there is something to heal and doing dps while there is nothing to heal. i can agree a healer should not staying around doing nothing. but we are at a point where it is expected to doing dps, letting the tank drop to 20% and then using the emergency heals to prevent a wipe.
To add to this, it still wouldn't change anything because this game has a focus on vertical gear progression. If healers weren't meant to provide DPS at all, they wouldn't have offensive spells, access to Cleric Stance, and everything would hit so hard that a tank would need heavy healing 100% of the time. This also means that a DPS or healer getting hit by a single mob would be one or two shotted by auto-attacks.
If you have to heal your ass off to keep a tank up in i220 gear then you'll still be standing around picking your butt in full i240, and two patches later it's like things don't even hit you anymore.
Healers have an extremely limited number of offensive skills that aren't cross class. On top of that, they have long spell cast times. What part of that screams "hey, I'm a DPS machine" to you? To me it looks like they intentionally did it that way in order to HINDER healers from DPSing. Just because they changed their mind halfway down the friggen line(hall of noobs or w/e it's called). Doesn't make it the end all be all right. The hindrances that keep a healer from effectively DPSing Are. Still. There.
Once those hindrances are removed. THEN we can have this discussion.
P.S. PvP doesn't have cleric stance. I wonder why.
HA you wanna know why ?

that's atrocious
letting such a powerful stance into pvp in the first place was a massive mistake
LOL. That's amazing. I wish I was playing when this was in effect. Would be way more fun. But yeah, that is broken as hell. BLM is dangerous enough without being able to heal itself. lol
Edit: I really hope you aren't replying to me Funky, because you are still on my ignore list. It'd be extremely funny if you are lol.

LOL, I don't post in pages and pages of threads, I respond once and then all of a sudden the next post is "I hope you're not replying to me because you're on my ignore list". You can pretend all you want.LOL. That's amazing. I wish I was playing when this was in effect. Would be way more fun. But yeah, that is broken as hell. Also, I don't respond for YOU, (whether you're "ignoring me" or not) I respond to add my voice into the cacophony of players trying to help other healers make better decisions than you.
It's funny because white mages weren't even the reason for CS to be removed, scholars were. Fairy + shielding + dot dps it meant you could cleric up place dots and then laugh at the person dying while your shielding lasted and fairy healed you through stuns and silences.
Oh my god, Assize in PvP sounds disgustingly strong. It already does nearly 50% more than a Stone III xD
If it's a team effort, why does it seem that healers always get the stick thrown at them when things go south?
