    New Recommended Gear Feature Incorrect

    Hello,

    I noticed that the new recommended gear feature released in patch 3.3 seems to be incorrect when comparing the two below items:

    Square Ash Shield    | 17   | 17      | 8/28
    Nightprowler's Targe | 17   | 15      | 10/35
    Both items have identical bonuses save for the targe which as one extra (+1 Determination). So from a bonus point of view, the targe is better. From a strength rate point of view, it is better. They are both at the same level. Why does the Recommended Gear feature choose the "Square Ash Shield?"

    All I can think of is that the gear feature will prefer required level over stats. That may be "by design" in which case this isn't really a bug; perhaps an enhancement request but it is acting as it should.

    Anyway, figured to report it just in case. Likely does not matter, but I noticed this behavior as a thaumaturge.

    I do believe this is by design rather than a bug. At higher levels the recommended gear feature will always prefer the highest item level (the patch notes expressed as much) regardless of materia or even innate bonuses being higher on a lower item level item. It will also prefer a HQ item over a normal item.

    In general this will work to pick the best items since XIV's gear itemisation usually features a steady climb in the same stats congruent with item level -- higher item level, higher important stats. It can misfire sometimes though, especially in instances like you're pointing out, where gear obtained from dungeons is a bit better than crafted gear from around the same level even if the dungeon gear has lower equip requirements.

    A smarter system would be nice, but I get the feeling that they intentionally didn't get too detailed with it.

    The feature is looking at ilevel and level not stat themself

    That's why if you wear crafted stuff with or without meld
    You should avoid that features because it won't take materia and overall stat in account
