    Let's have the magic stones from 9

    So a lot of people have been asking for some customization options, and some ideas are good, some outlandish, and lets be honest some are just plain bad. But they all share the idea that we want to be able to customize our character. Well what about a setup like the one from 9. 9 had a system that as you fought battles you'd get a new passive or active skill to utilize in combat. Now while the active skills were things like fire, stone, mug, etc, the passive skills were things like HP+10%, jelly, auto-float, skills that could assist you in battle but not totally make or break it. These skills also required the use of magic stones to use that as you character leveled higher the more stones they would get.

    What do people think of a system like this for some customization. With a system like this abilities could be changed on the fly if the player chooses, But unlike Materia, it would be on the players UI and not be visisble to anyone else, so "hopefully" it would prevent griefing. If something like this is added, the abilities could be broken up into 2 sections, one for the character and one for the class/job. And even Crafters and Gatherers could have a similar system.

    So what does everyone think?

    I like helping people with their Job ideas, it's fun to help them visuallize and create the job they'd like to play most. Plus I make my own too, I'll post them eventually.

    I'm not sure letting people swap support abilities on the fly would go well, especially in raids.

    Ive mentioned this is almost every thread talking about gear with unique stats. So I am totally on board with this. The traits/stats should act like AST sects though and not be allowed to change in combat but other than that +1 from me for support!

    I think it would be a great way to bring the class guilds and guild tokens back into the game as well. Collect guild tokens and trade them in for traits or something and then we can spec them using the IX system in some way

    Need to support something this bland chose in gear that is just stale bread crums to me at this point. Though since this been a vertical progress game for years now they need to introduce it slowly for ppl to adjust over the course of the game then add more during patchs .

    A new expansion is a good time to introduce a new core system. And it can be expanded on through the following patches.

    I think moving stats off gear is a good idea, given how much gear is shared... We cannot, for example, have radically different gear for each tank that supplements its play style because of this... That's not even touching on specific ability enhancements, in my mind it seems sensible for Paladin to gear for Mind, while Dark Knight gears for Piety. That's obviously not how this game works, because we've been incredibly limited in our itemization... We can't have that depth because both Jobs share the same gear, what the hell is Warrior going to do with all that MP from a Dark Knight build? What's Dark Knight going to do with Mind for a proper Paladin build? Move that away from gear and onto a IX inspired system, though, and we've got something...

    I want them to drop the cross-class system, personally... I think we'd be much better off with additional Job skills that effectively do the same thing, but are unique to the Job... So, rather than literally all DPS using Invigorate, they instead get their own TP recovery skill that ties into Job mechanics; Ninja could tie Second Wind and Invigorate into one skill, the effect of which is dependent on its current venom, for example.

    I'd find that a lot more interesting than the current system... More so if you don't limit it to existing cross-class skills...Keep the same 5 options limit, but actually provide more than 5 worthwhile skills to choose from... People often complain we'll just go for the best option, but so what? Make it so it's situational and easy to switch them around... If I'm off-tanking as Dark Knight in a fight I know doesn't need "Provoke", perhaps I set "Blood for Blood" instead, for a DPS increase, for example... I'd find all content a lot more interesting if I have to ask myself what's optimal for each encounter before hand...
