(3.3 Spoilers) Please don't let players watch Final Steps cutscenes until i205

For some reason, I posted this thread in Website Feedback, my bad.

Sohr Khai and Final Steps are very closely linked to each other in the narrative as well as the quest chain, the former basically drops you right into the latter.

Facing down Nidhogg with Dragonsong booming in the background, all hyped and ready to go with Hraesvelgr's blessing and dragons at my back, I click on Aymeric and see "Average ilvl requirement not met".

I was frustrated - and let me emphasize this - not because I had to go out and grind gear again, but because I will never be as excited as I was after watching those cutscenes for the first time. All that narrative momentum went to waste. The ill placing of the level restriction has ruined the experience for me. What could've been an extremely memorable event in my time with FFXIV has become lingering frustration every time I think about what happened.

Please patch it so that a player cannot talk to Aymeric to trigger the Final Steps cutscenes until they are already i205 and actually ready to jump into Final Steps.

As long as that cutscene is not watched upon entry to the trial, I don't mind. There's always going to be that one guy that insists on watching the entire cutscene though, and that' s a fairly long cutscene where everyone just has to sit on their butts and twiddle their thumbs.

I think you missed the OP's point. She's asking that the quest to unlock the trial not be available until you already meet the ilvl requirement to enter, as she went through all the cutscenes ready to fight and was denied entry.

I can totally see how this would ruin the experience for you OP. I agree that the quest should not even be available to you until you already meet the trial entry requirements.

It's not as if it's something new to the game, considering that there's a quest that wouldn't let you progress unless you had specific iLevel gear in all your slots.

I don't know how easy it would be to attach an iLevel requirement to a quest, but if we can do it for dungeons and roulettes, it shouldn't be that hard, right?

I'd maybe perhaps like it if they raise the iLevel requirement as well, since it has DPS checks, healing checks and co-ordination checks that most people don't seem to meet, but that's just my irritable PUG tank side talking.

To be honest, having different iLvl requirements for Sohr Khai and Final Steps is monumentally stupid in the first place - one doesn't need more than a few minutes to get from the end of the former to the beginning of the latter. They should've either raised the iLvl requirement of the new dungeons to 205 or (worse idea) lowered Final Steps to 200.

I tremendously agree with the OP in this.
I literally experienced this yesterday and it was immersion breaking.
Thankfully I was able to get a piece of loot from A5 to get above the i205 requirement, but it sucked.

My BLM could have done it, but I switched mains including changing name and appearance because my main is now a Ninja not a BLM so I was rather disappointed when I couldn't queue for the Final Steps of Faith right away.

The limit is fine where it is. The problem is that people can't dodge and are entering the add phase weakened/dead, not properly managing their cooldowns, or not even doing their rotations properly (even with top of the line gear they are still going to suck compared to an i205 that knows what they're doing). Once/if these problems are ironed out, i205 DPS can win this fight.

This exact same sort of thing happened with other difficult trials like Titan EX (people asking for the ilvl requirement to be raised) and let's face it, it did jack all because even at i130 nowadays people still regularly fail the trial on DF. This is a player/mechanic problem, not an ilvl problem.
