Let's have the magic stones from 9

So a lot of people have been asking for some customization options, and some ideas are good, some outlandish, and lets be honest some are just plain bad. But they all share the idea that we want to be able to customize our character. Well what about a setup like the one from 9. 9 had a system that as you fought battles you'd get a new passive or active skill to utilize in combat. Now while the active skills were things like fire, stone, mug, etc, the passive skills were things like HP+10%, jelly, auto-float, skills that could assist you in battle but not totally make or break it. These skills also required the use of magic stones to use that as you character leveled higher the more stones they would get.

What do people think of a system like this for some customization. With a system like this abilities could be changed on the fly if the player chooses, But unlike Materia, it would be on the players UI and not be visisble to anyone else, so "hopefully" it would prevent griefing. If something like this is added, the abilities could be broken up into 2 sections, one for the character and one for the class/job. And even Crafters and Gatherers could have a similar system.

    So what does everyone think?

I like helping people with their Job ideas, it's fun to help them visuallize and create the job they'd like to play most. Plus I make my own too, I'll post them eventually.

I'm not sure letting people swap support abilities on the fly would go well, especially in raids.

I didnt mean on the fly as in during battle, I meant if you are heading into a raid/dungeon and know to expect this and that, they you can swap some skills for others, but no one would be able to know or see, unless you tell them.

But wouldn't that cause a bit of drama among the party since people are gonna demand to know what everyone has on? I mean, in dungeons, no one would give a damn what you use since dungeons are mainstream content, but in raids and savage/EX stuff, it might be a tricky issue. I think we would need better mechanics first before we think about juggling abilities for every fight.

Wildstar went with a system like that, where you could constantly swap around your sets of abilities to fit your playstyle or whatever worked best for the content you were doing on top of being able to divide an extra set of points to add different passive effects and increased damage/healing to abilities you used depending on the situation. It was one of the better systems in that game. I'd constantly be tinkering with my hotkeys and had a few boss specific loadouts that allowed me to use the setup I felt worked best for me.

In one dungeon as a tank, I had a AoE/defense heavy loadout for the trash, a defensive loadout for the first boss, a more mobility focused loadout for the second boss, a secondary defensive/aoe loadout for the trash that hit harder, and a mobility/defense focused loadout for the last boss. On top of every setup also keeping in mind I needed to have some high threat moves to hold the boss and any adds that spawned I found it rather enjoyable.

Ive mentioned this is almost every thread talking about gear with unique stats. So I am totally on board with this. The traits/stats should act like AST sects though and not be allowed to change in combat but other than that +1 from me for support!

I think it would be a great way to bring the class guilds and guild tokens back into the game as well. Collect guild tokens and trade them in for traits or something and then we can spec them using the IX system in some way

I'd like an actual cross class system but that's just me.

We can't have this because people whine they have to level other classes for abilities.

They don't have to. They can live without. The current cross discipline system needs to be scrapped. What we have now needs to be added to all jobs that need them and make room for actual cross class abilities. MCH is the biggest offender here. If CC is needed to optimize a job they should have those skills integrated into their main kit.

A Provoke skill should be on all tanks period. They shouldn't automatically be forced to Cross Class Gladiator just for Provoke.

It defeats the purpose of cross class and gives you no illusion of choice. Too restricted. Too controlled. No diversity.

Either scrap the current system or allow players to use traited CC skills if they have reached the level of the other class required for them.
