Yeah cuz youtube is true. That is categorically untrue. https://youtu.be/-1R-xZy-Gb4 That is a video where someone talks about the history of dual wielding across many cultures in history.
For many reason duel weild was never used and the major one is that peeple are too tight in a battlefield to use them. Poeple often had no idea who they killed with their weapon.
I don't mean it was never used by anyone. Of course assassin used dual kama in asia. But Dual weild is really a minority in real life compared to what you see in MMO.
I mean you could argue that "forks" were used as weapon, its probably even more popular then any kind of dual weilding ever been.
Why don't you do some research before you open your mouth. Matt Easton is the man that you see in the video. Some of his credentials include a degree in Medieval Archaeology and History and a founding member of Historical European Martial Arts Coalition (HEMAC). He has been teaching various historical martial arts since 2k. I am willing to bet this man has far more knowledge and experience than you do in this subject area. Here is his resume.
Just because something is on Youtube, Wikipedia, or The Internet doesn't make it untrue. It just means you may have to do some fact checking. There have been many instances in many cultures of people using two weapons to fight with. Even if someone can find a way to disprove all real world instances of dual wielding we still have precedence in Final Fantasy to have it. The genji glove from FF6 and the Ninja and Dancer classes from FF11 come to mind.
He never made any refference to real life and stated "in fantasy"
But yeah the most used weapon-style of all time is probably the spear+shield.
Ninja sometimes use daggers (and in the lower levels, as rogue, the class quests discuss their weapons as being daggers), but a lot of their later weapons are swords. And samurai would probably use 2H katanas (or ōdachi) to distinguish them from Ninja who can already dual wield 2 katanas.
Would it be that different from paladins, who already have an extra slot to fill? Sure, theirs is a shield rather than a second weapon, but it's pretty important for them. If there were a dual wielding class that used separate main and off hand weapons (rather than the two in one pattern that Ninja and Monk do) they'd simply be half the cost or twice as easy to get to counter the fact that they'd need two of them, much the same as a paladin's sword and shield together cost the same as a weapon for any other job (at least in places where SE can directly control the cost, like tome weapons).
Well, that's not quite the only time a dagger was paired with another weapon, but was probably its most widespread use, and fits a broader real-world pattern. Pretty much any time two weapons were wielded at once, the off-hand weapon would be something small. Wielding a full-sized weapon in each hand seems to be a purely fantasy creation (though a quite popular one, since it looks badass, and in fantasy that counts for more than the practical considerations of how cumbersome it would be).Never. There is no such thing as "proper" dual wielding. If you look historically - back when they actually used swords, axes, etc. to fight - nobody ever[*] used two weapons at once. When possible weapon+shield or (rarely) a 2h-weapon was much preferred.
[*] There is actually one well-known exception. The use of rapier+dagger was not uncommon during the renaissance, but that is just about the only historically documented occurence of using two weapons at once.
I think it would be interesting if the game had a dual wielding class where the main hand weapon and off hand weapon were two different classes of items, like main hand sword and off hand dagger. I don't think it's likely, though, since it would double the number of weapons SE would have to design for the job. More likely would be other jobs that dual wield the way monks and ninja do, with a pair of matching weapons as a single item (dual axes, maybe).

I was thinking it could be like gla/pld but the shield is half the stats so I wouldn't know how it would work for a dual wield class. But its an interesting idea to think about.Would it be that different from paladins, who already have an extra slot to fill? I'm a fan of dual wield in games like Dark Souls, so why not.
I thought I would want to see a dual wield spear build, but I cant think of a real benefit for it other than to show off weapons. Definitely would like a spear-shield wield instead of the spear taking two hands. Would also love to see a mage wield a sword or axe in the off hand, maybe a bow like Rosa can have in FF4.
Reminds me of my warden from lotro.I'm a fan of dual wield in games like Dark Souls, so why not.

Knowing SE, they'll allow you to dual wield a lo enoquian/gl, "you can dual wield as long as sun and moon are aligned and you are under the effects of astral fire III, umbral ice III, greased lightning III and Dreadwyrm Trance. Dual wield stance lasts 5 seconds and needs to be refreshed with 3 GCDs lolwtfak!
