I'd rather read your comments instead of throwing the word arbitrary around. All it amounts to is you handwaving a discussion you can't be bothered with.

With all due respect, when your post amount to "Why do we have Sleep and Lethargy instead of Drain/ Break/ summon lollypop guild". I have to dismiss it as arbitrary.

We have whole raids dedicated to how Mhachi mages were able to control high level voidsent. And only broke free several years after a flood happened and wiped out the nation. We've had Mages build the construct Ozma which still worked to this day. We've had Thaumaturges undergo summoning rituals which is the only reason Ultros is even in XIV. We are talking about a low level Chimera here. And even then in relation between job quests and abilities do they have symmetry with each other? Nope. It was more "grats you completed quest have a skill you wish you had 5 minutes ago".

And look how that turned out for them. How many Mhachi are running around Void Ark? You know, the thing they escaped the flood in. Oh yes and that whole incident with the Cloud of Darkness being summoned by a mad emperor to pretty much destroy Eorzea.

Ozma is a non sequitur. We don't know enough about it. Besides, I don't think we can carry around an Ozma wherever we go.

The Mhachi mages aren't around because they were prominent during the War of the Magi. They are mostly wiped out now. They took the Ark into the Void supposedly...probably couldn't survive. Refer to what could have been the fate of Nero in the World of Darkness. That is likely what happened to all the Mages on board the Ark. Voidsent only survived because they can exist on that plane of existence. Xande made a pact with something that couldn't be controlled. And is mostly a homage to FF3.

Your arbitrary dismissal of why NPC BLM have access to petrification and a drain spell whereas the player does not only means you don't care much for them. If it's a fear of imbalance why not plop them in PvP?

That said further discussion with you shall lead nowhere. So nowhere it shall remain. Kudos.

Apparently you do not understand my facetious comment. So I'll put it simply. Looking up what spell to use then using that spell to make the most numbers on your magic moving picture box is not "deep" or complex". Especially in an age where you can look up everything. I like how you skip over the fact that all voidsend summoning to date, except one comic relief example, has been shown to be irredeemably evil. Bit lets ignore that when you have a narrative to push.

But all this points to a deeper malady, what i like to call the Akiza effect. You want your classes to be special, regardless of what it does to balance or the increasing button bloat. You don't care as long as you get to feeeeeeel good.
