I'm AWE struck that you managed to read 67 pages and pull exactly the wrong message out of it. Not one person in this thread has asked for PUG's to be Static quality, not one. I'd argue you were making blatant lies to make a point. Why is it so terrible to advocate a less dichotomized community where dead weight isn't rampant and needing to be carried.

Of I am failing a mechanic in a fight, or unable to perform my role in a fight, am I doing it intentionally or not? am I just unfamiliar with it, or am I trolling? Should the long time player be punished for not remembering the nuances of every fight in the game, or going on hiatus?

The problem with this, is that you have to define where it ends and hope it doesn't start killing legit parties. If it is somewhere south of "speedrun", You had better be satisfied with the minimum of that effort or else we are going to have this conversation all over again, with less people.

Did they try to move out of the aoe? Or did they just stand in it. Did they stand in it the next 6 times?

It's not astrophysics and there's no yes or no answer to your questions. These are all things that are easily evaluated on the spot.

It may not be astrophysics, but my point is that I am far more comfortable leaving those situational decisions in the hands of a human than a machine. If I am not ok with some person arbitrating whether I earned the loot or clear that resulted from my actions, I'm not going to trust the system with taking away wins to the tune of the victory fanfare.

ya its sad at times how un optimized ppl play their class. Only thing you can do is well.. you said not to make it a friend argument.. but the only thing i can think of is to make more friends. Some ppl play bad on purpose.. I've had a Ice mage in a group before with full fire resist materia gear.. sadly the ice mage wasnt the worst dps i've had in the group before. There are many times where dps can fall to to 300 or 400 range. So basicly they are either eating pizza while doing it, trolling, wants a carry, or lets say they arent an avg person. only thing u can do is pray or make a group.

Friends act exactly like anyone else, ONLY difference is....they are friends so you know ...you laugh with them and accept their attitude and THAT is wrong..just because they are your friends doenst make them be perfect...this argument of...play with friends as if the fact to be friend or in teh same FC did change and suddenly from calling him bad the previous week becauuse you crossed path in a dungeon or whatever, suddenly becomes good because well you know he is a friend and in the same FC (so you have to be politically correct) if they are to be considered good or bad has no space in identifiying good or so called bad players because well we could argue on the definition of *bad*...to some not knowing is already a sign of being bad..

Just please stop saying that finding friends will autopmatically be the solution to all problems is not, on the contrary

Think through what they said: ""Play how you want" in football, soccer or whatever else. What do you think will happen to you?" If making a pre-formed group can be analogous to getting your friends together to go play soccer, then using DF would be analogous to a soccer game organized by a third-party, where everyone shows up to play but they don't know each other. Even in the latter scenario, if someone just... stood around half the time, kicked the ball in the wrong direction (and when asked about this, clarified that it isn't because they are totally new to soccer or are suffering from some kind of impairment; they answer with "well whatever, not like we're PRO soccer players so who cares?"), etc...

This right here is exactly what people have been trying to say.


I don't think most people are expecting perfect performance (would be silly to expect as much from DF, anyways). But, I mean, it's not like any of the basic things in this game are especially hard to learn either. In my experience, anyways.

There are no playstyles in this game. You either know what works or you don't. A playstyle is vintage level 75 era FFXI WAR/MNK tanking in the dunes, WAR/THF sneak attack Sturmwinds above level 30, WAR/NIN when Rampage is available or for standard exp groups, WAR/SAM when you really want to push damage, etc. You have no viable subjob choices, options, or varying builds in XIV. You either have your cross-class abilities or you don't. You either know your rotation or you don't. You either AoE a trash pack of 10 mobs or you don't. You either wear STR rings on your DRG or you wear something like MND rings. Ice mage isn't a playstyle; it's a fundamental lack of understanding of how the job works. You either contribute some DPS on SCH where half of the job is a DPS kit when there's no healing needed or you don't.

XIV is very much a game of binary choices. There's what works and what doesn't. It's not a game where you have many options and are choosing one over another based on altering playstyle for scenarios. I'm tolerant of "differing playstyles" up to a point, but let's not kid ourselves about the truth of what it is, and that is usually the person doesn't know what they're doing or are knowingly not performing as they should.

I have the perfect way to fix the issue of people "not pulling their weight". It is 100% flawless and will completely fix random parties each time you go in.

Actually, there isn't one, because any game ever that has multiplayer has bad/lazy players and there is nothing you can do to fix the issue as a whole. You just have to deal with each one that happens. If you hate dealing with these people, then form your own parties and not associate with them. If not, know what you are getting into.

It could actually be the solution.

Friends or FC members don't report you for harassment so you can be straightforward and tell them how much they suck and how much they are dragging the rest down... and the best part about it is that they actually listen to suggestions no matter how impolitely you advise them because they want to, you know, stay friends or participate in FC content.

Of course sometimes you help a friend who is a little bit underperforming or being drunk, but those still are able to make up for it with the relationship (or eRPing :3) so you get some value in return. When a random person in DF is slacking they can't pay you back in any way - as most likely you will never see them again - and so everyone should pull their own weight there.
