Ahh... it's this thread again. Just goes to show I can leave for a few weeks and nothing ever changes.

I don't think you quite understand - it was said that the person with the better gear will perform better because the person with the lower iLvL doesn't grasp their class/job as well......THAT'S nonsense. That's what I'm disagreeing with.
Don't get me wrong, there should be official iLvL requirements for certain content. BUT, when there's 200 (example) content, and people like you would rather take the person with iLvL 225 over someone just as qualified (and plays as well as the better gear) but only with iLvL 215, because you assume the better iLvL makes them a better player....THAT'S asinine and generalizing.
I think you may have misread something somewhere. I've been combing through all the posts directed at you starting with the first you quoted, and everything I found directly pertaining to iLvl bringing up the minimum bar has no substance based around your claims that someone said that High gear + bad skill > Low Gear + High Skill. Unless you were referring to a much older comment in this thread, which case I don't know why you'd be quoting me.I don't think you quite understand- it was said that the person with the better gear will perform better because the person with the lower iLvL doesn't grasp their class/job as well......THAT'S nonsense. "cant defeat nidhogg cus they're using a il90 weapon can we gotta kick them since we can't do enough damage. Go buy a il115 weapon from a npc... its only 10k. The bar should be raised for having a higher item level to prevent players from going in unprepared."
" By having a higher iLvl requirement, less than stellar players can contribute beyond making "leetist" claims."
"The point is to make the lowest common denominator not such an anchor,"
"You'll still be able to play in content on alts, just get some more gear."
"Higher iLvl may not stop poor performance, but their performance will be better than a lower iLvl doing the same performance."
"Having gear and doing your rotation terribly will still put out higher numbers than terrible gear and terrible rotation. Your Medica 2 and Regen spam will heal more and your lack of CD tank will still take less while being able to receive more."
This is the single most absurd statement that anyone could let slip from their fingers onto a keyboard. So people who get gear with currency earned from completing dungeons are somehow below average players compared to raiders? Please get over yourselves with that nonsense.
Actually, I think if you think about it he was probably saying that it's a cesspool due to underachieving (Players who don't give it their all and not underachieving in the sense of obtaining gear because he mentioned gear afterwards which would be a redundancy) players who only have decent gear due to token systems, and not about raiding gear. That's just how I interpreted it though. This is the single most absurd statement that anyone could let slip from their fingers onto a keyboard. Lol Greedalox's understands, the context I wrote it in, a 9th grader with an A in English could understand. From your comment I think it's you who has the online ego problem. Can't believe someone let that leak out of their thought process.
Punishing people for playing poorly screams of elitism for me. MMOs already have too much elitism as it is. Some people just aren't going to learn, no matter how many times you tell them. Some people do have legitimate problems, such as mental impairments or muscular issues. I had a guy who never stunned mobs because he had arthritis and couldn't pull off the stuns in time. I had someone who never dodged because he was colorblind and the AOEs blended into the environment.
You are not going to like my answer, but here it is anyway. Play with your friends. Form a static even. That is the ONLY way you are guaranteed not to play with poor players. Playing with strangers for the most part is just how it goes in MMOs, and if you get stuck with bad group, suck it up and do the run, or leave.
Dude - for the record, I read it the same way Hayward did. It sounded like you were blasting anyone with tome gear. I'm a good player - being a tank, I feel good that I know how to keep and hold aggro, and feel like I contribute groups that I join. Right click on me and you'll see a ton of tome gear. I don't have a static, and quite frankly, I doubt anyone is going to take someone without Alex. Sav. experience at all. Therefore I don't have raid gear, and now feel partially judged for that. Context is hard to read into on the internet. Always has been, always will be.
Sarcasm is hard to read on the Internet, context is not. People have been reading context out of books for generations. It's when people stop reading books and only read online articles that are poorly written is where context of thought is lost. I feel like I've jumped into a different world with the discussion.
I've played with people who genuinely have motor skill problems, and they still do better than people who don't give a rats ass about properly comboing or an ice mage. Hell you can even clear T5 with one hand on a keyboard back at level 50 when we weren't button bloated with abilties. If you're talking about elitism, then you probably don't get the context of the topic or the discussion that's been going on.Punishing people for playing poorly screams of elitism for me. There's a line where someone with a low ilvl weapon will do just as much as someone who has a high ilvl weapon but does only auto attacks. Honestly if you're going into level 60 content with an i90 weapon, it's a good bet to say that you're intentionally doing so just to gimp your dps (and slow down the party) because honestly, vendors with NQ white gear have better choices than your i90 at that point.
And consequently, ilvl =/= skill, especially when these things are handed out by weekly tomestones (which are handed out by content that at worst gives you a slap on the wrist)
