It's probably easier for them to research stuff here than in game. The process to report a player in game is much more complicated than here. We've been asking for an easier way to report problem players since launch but for some reason, SE cannot or will not implement it.

No doubt. I really hope 4.0 brings a more streamlined reporting system in game.

It also probably makes it easier organization-wise to just have "GM" rather than Forum GM or Lodestone GM or In-Game GM.

Maybe, but you can still read. And subscribers still post toxic things on the forums. The last thing SE wants is for to-be subscribers to see a bunch of toxic waste on their official forums.

There have been many times players are reported and GM's of course will tell you that they can't give you any update or personal information regarding the report/case. Needless to say, that's just some general answer and means as much as we don't care lol. Not saying that all GM's are like that, but sadly we are seeing it every day, houses are still sold on PF etc.

That does not mean that, I have made a GM report before and been told that and then later that day that person was here on the forums making a topic about how they got a infraction on their account from a GM.

I've been reported by 7 people at once ( a whole FC basically, the tank got his FC m8s to report me because he knew his case was a nonissue). Still to this day nothing has happened.

The House selling Yoshida has directed people to report.
