I just don't understand this, especially when I come from big games like GW2 (I LOVED exploration in that game) and WoW (worst game ever, bla bla bla, whatever) and exploration in those games was so fun, because it was totally free. And yes also no swimming...come on.

Another issue I have is how the world is limited to macro areas. I guess i can understand why, but I wish the game world was "one big world", and not several areas split into macro areas: even the cities are split in areas, can't they at least be one and only? I really have a hard time immerse myself into this game's world because of this. Even the smallest MMORPG has one big city to explore without loading times!
Yes, thank you glad I'm not the only one. GW2 was fun to explore even the events/fates GW2 had were fun no matter what it was. GW2 has the best exploration I've ever played. They have huge caves filled with loot, puzzles and monsters so much fun to explore. FF14 1.0 had an open world with cave systems and the maps were huge compared to what we have now it also had an open world dungeon like Diadem that wasn't a monster grind fest. The graphics were better in 1.0.

FF14 fates are just dumb. All of them are the same thing.
