I've been meaning to ask the same thing actually.

Someone else also pointed out that in many cut scenes from other Final Fantasy titles we can see plenty of non-realistic jumping (super high jumps, bounce off walls or slide on cables, fall from terrible height as if it was nothing, etc.) And yet, some want us tied to the ground, others to be able to jump knee-high only... Hmm... I don't understand, isn't it Final Fantasy? I believe we should be able to jump a good height.
