This is an MMORPG you dont need to hop onto anything
This is an MMORPG you dont need to jump to avoid attacks, you EVA skill should be doing that
This is not an Action RPG
    This is not a platformer
    This is a MMORPG

Add jumping, I don't care.... but disable it in battle and add atleast a 5 sec delay in its use.
This is an MMORPG you don't need a mailbox.
This is an MMORPG you don't need LS administration.
This is an MMORPG you don't need an AH.
This is an MMORPG you don't need a LFG tool.

We don't need any of those things either. We've been playing without them for over a year.

Who are you to define what makes an MMO?

LOL Same could be said for you.

In the words of the collective FFXIV community: "If you don't like it get out!"
And the statement I placed in bold for you, they didn't; otherwise it would have been part of the game in Beta, OB and at release. You and the "collective FFXIV jumpers community" QQ'd enough for them to ADD IT. So before you ask someone else what makes them define an MMO, who the hell gave YOU the right to bitch enough to add something that wasn't intended for the game and has no use in the game what so ever?

I'm not the one that thinks the ability or inability to jump defines an MMO. I simply don't care one way or there other. I played EVE for 4 years and for 3 of them I couldn't even see my own character. It's immaterial to the larger experience for me.

Oh please. The developers released a poorly optimized tech demo for Crystal Tools that was missing a lot of things.

Actually, the technical demo was pretty optimized, you do mean the 2005 xbox 360 hardware test of 'Rapture' yes? FFXIII is also another well optimized games (few glitches here and there, i.e infinite jump glitch, but what game doesn't have glitches here and there?)

Also, a technical demo is always "missing a lot of things", thus "Technical Demo". XIV was unpolished but far from a technical demo.

Here are some people that believe jumping is an expected MMO feature (one of them being Yoshi-P):

    (Begin below at 1:37)

Everything in XIV moves along at a snail's pace. Whether you're running around or fighting, the playstyle is just tired. The interface is subpar, laggy, and unintuitive. Traversing terrain hits a snag when you come to hills and cliffs; typically you can't climb over or fall down steep inclines. It doesn't help that there isn't an option to just outright jump, and it's all too easy to get caught up on invisible objects or impeded by obstacles you'd think you could easily climb over. -- Source
Final Fantasy XIV will also get a jump command sometime in the future. No, not an attack evading Dragoon style jump, a regular jump.

"All I can say is that we are not emphasizing jumping with the jump key as a means to cover vast distances on the map or an element that must be used during battle strategies… Maybe it’s easiest to say it will just be like the jump you generally see in MMO’s," Yoshida said. -- Source
RPGSite: Last question… what core mechanics—if any—are being drawn from western MMO developers? Such as the option to do things like swimming and jumping?

Yoshida: I’m a very hardcore gamer, and one of the first things when I got onto FFXIV was that I wanted to add a jump feature. When I threw that out to the community, what surprised me was that a lot of players were against that idea. Their complaint was that you shouldn’t be able to jump in a FINAL FANTASY game! Just because it’s in all the other MMOs, does it fit with the image of FINAL FANTASY? For example, people didn’t want to see Lalafells jumping all around. Personally, I don’t like the fact that my character is bound to the ground, so I definitely want to add a jump feature.

RPGSite: That’s interesting because they added a jump option to XIII-2, and I haven’t seen much negative reaction to that.

Yoshida: Everyone probably wouldn’t mind if their character could jump, but maybe there’s a lot of people who just don’t want to see everyone else jumping! A lot of the Japanese players of XIV that only know about that game as well as FFXI, so they’re used to having a character that can’t jump. They don’t realize that you can jump in every other MMO in the world, so they have that aversion to it. -- Source
