Adjusting the jump is going to be a massive pain mainly due to Lala needing to be able to jump as high as other races without looking strange.

Also the other races have to have a respectable jump as well, making it even harder to balance the hight of the jump. Chances are regardless of how much balancing they do Lalafells will look like circus midgets when they jump or taller races will look like they are just "High stepping" over fences.

Honestly, I think this idea of it needing to be 'fair's just a reflexive assumption. If it's to be added, why shouldn't it be different between each race? You could take the same logic would demand all races jump equally high and run with it right up to total equipment and class homogeneity.

Hell, you could even vary it by class (or armour choice?). Say.. Paladins/heavy armour(+small/large/otherwise stubby-legged races?) have the lowest jump proficiency and the assumedly eventual Ninja/Dancer classes and/or those wearing tighter cloth gear the highest?

'Might add an interesting twist to its implications for gameplay.

When there is a race differentiation there needs to be balance as well. With XI some races had higher base stats than others to make up for it they also had lower base stats than others.

You can't balance something like that with a "Jump" feature. Unless it's entirely cosmetic and has no gameplay interactions every player should have the same jump. Otherwise it's unfair to people who picked a race that gets the most gimped jump beause they get nothing else in return.

For the jump feature to actually have a reason to exist in the game it needs to be the same for everyone else, it's akin to saying that Lalafell should also walk/run slower because they are smaller.

Fair point, I suppose it would spill out into stats having to be fiddled with as a tradeoff .. though.. well frankly I wouldn't mind being 'gimped' in that sense. Being a Lalafell is the advantage I perceive from uh.. .. being a Lalafell.

Although that said, the advantage could be in having the smaller jump. Jum higher and farther? Obvious advantages.. buut also more time airborne, unable to orient or commit yourself differently.. But then I suppose the kind of effort necessary to program momentum like that's a bit beyond current spec.. meh.

.. Except.. I'd kinda like that, too. Or, rather, I'd enjoy Lalafell walking and running slower and for there to be some (say, stamina .. and yes I know that's not in game and likely never will be) hit for running hard enough to keep up with longer-legged characters.

And no I'm not trying to argue the game should be that way because I'd like it, it's obviously a bad idea from a customer retention perspective, 'least with present tech. I'd just, you know.. like it, however stupid unlikely it may be.

'Sides if things ever got to that degree of nuance I'd probably be sitting pretty with my bloody great evasion advantage from being so tiny.

But yeah, fair points. Although I do still think the bit about gear/class having an influence on jump proficiency is still kinda viable and relevant, at least a fair bit moreso than race.
