So innovation is going from 3 dimensions to 2? You must live in a weird alternate world, usually innovation means increasing potential, not reducing it."Standard." Says who? Ah, right. No innovation allowed. Sorry. SE has the chance to create an entirely new atmosphere for MMOs that doesn't rely on vertical jumping. But no, "we" all want vertical jumping and Lalafell jumping 10 feet in the air. Gotcha. Good thing "we" cleared that up. I'm glad you're here to talk for me and everyone else, as well as setting standards for games.
Again, they know that there is an issue with the jump height, They are fine tuning it. Calm down.
Actually innovation means "to renew or change", it is often misused to describe improvements but the word innovation itself doesn't have anything to do with quality. In fact the quality might increase or decrease, and if you look at the way FFXIV tried to innovate from 11 at launch was clearly not a good result.
Jumping is not by any chance innovation when it comes to gaming.
As far as I can remember there has been jumping (probably even started earlier on all 3 examples, the point is however, it's not by any chance new)
- 2D jumping already on the NES
- 3D jumping already on the PS1
- MMO jumping already in WOW
Obviously to FFXIV it's innovation since it's a change, but so would be removing running speed. The point is really than in MMOs it's more of an innovation to not have jump since nowadays it's basically jumping on the bandwagon.
The point is that the lack of jump was simply a choice of design.
What however is the reason that jump is being implemented is that people want freedom. People want that the devs catter to every small silly complaint that they have, and now the devs are actually giving after, this is not good. The devs should make their own design choices, the fact that they are giving after makes me lose respect towards them. We should not get what we want like that, we should enjoy the game as it is uniquely intended.
When it comes to freedom, the most important part is to set the boundaries right, this is utterly important, freedom is good, but fail to set balance in the form of boundaries and it becomes uninteresting.
Now I'm not only talking about jump, but all the silly mounts that have been shown as well. It makes me wonder where this game is going next.
