Making gear for others and then ...

I've never made a whole lot of gil crafting, mostly because I'm just lazy. And that's my choice I know. I will make stuff of friends and other fc'ers. If I have the materials, I'll generally donate them for free. It's just helping folks out. But I've noticed some that ask for things that they don't use. Instead, they sell it on the MB. Like you take the time to make a 190 HQ item with most of your stuff because your fc'er really needs it and then you see it for sale on the MB. Or you gather free rare material that take the books for the crafters to turn around and make a fortune off it.

I'm feeling a bit used. Am I making it to be more than it is? Am I too sensitive? Is this something you (more wiser) crafters have tackled before?

I am like you because I don't make a lot of gil crafting I just like to do it more than anything else but for ALL THE MONIEZ i can't be bothered.

I have had this happen before and it would kinda preturb me but then if I "gave" it then it was a gift. It also depends on the amount of hassle I had to go through to make the item and if it used a ton of my own materials. They can do whatever they want but I would remember which people did it and not be too keen to do it in the future for sure. Or conversely I will ask them for a food that I need and then craft their item and use the rest of the item time to get some of my crafting done or ask for a tip for your time. Just because they are friends doesn't mean you can't make a little something. Just my opinion others will chime in I am sure.

You sound like a kind and generous person, OP.

You're not being too sensitive at all, I'd find it very rude - doubly so if they sold items using materials I'd given/ gathered for them. I definitely wouldn't be inclined to help again. Not even offering to pay someone who has not only crafted the item but provided the mats? It's just selfish.

Continue crafting for friends if you want to, but don't go out of your way gathering or using your own stuff to do it if they're only using it for their own profit - let them bring the mats to you.

If they supply all materials and such, the only thing it costs me is my time doing it so I do not mind why they want it in that situation. If they did not supply the materials then I wouldn't do it unless I was sure they were going to use it and not sell it. If they are doing it just to make gil and do not supply all the materials it is no different than begging you for gil which case might as well cut out the middle man of wasting your time crafting it and just hand them the gil instead. In WoW you would often get people spamming you with 'gold plox' type messages, this situation is even worse because on top of merely wanting you to spend your gil to make them gil they are also wasting your time having you farm or buy ingredients then crafting it.

I personally only craft for free if they provide the mats but most usually provide some type of tip even when providing mats. Otherwise it price of mats plus a crafting fee/gathering fee, which I usually determine based on how much the mats cost or time to gathering opposed to how much it sells for on MB.

If I were to use mats I gathered to make something for someone else for free, I would bring along 2 copper ore and 1 tin ore (or something similar) and tell them that after I give them the item, I want them to make a bronze ingot for me.

That would be the condition of the trade. Then the gear they "need" will be spirit bound to them and they can't sell it.

If they fail to uphold their end of the agreement, then you could get a GM involved. (I understand they are your friends or FC mates, but if you are being scammed by someone, appropriate action should be taken.)

Ive been in that spot also OP if you find out they are doing it just dont craft for them anymore. Its very disrespectful if you go out of your way to help and all they really want is some quick money.

And now my decision is made, unless they can provide some kind of useful thing to me. (Comp i need or craft i can't do due to spec)
Even friend and FC became regular customer and are bound to a fee if they want me to craft

I usually craft for free to help people out... even make people I see undergeared sometimes stuff and trade them even if never met em before.
But had twice such an experiance where I felt betrayed:
FC mate asked me to craft Rose Gold Ingots for him and when I asked how many he said he anyway will sell them so as many as I feel like... -.-
Another was I was one of just a handful 3 star ALC spec on my servers so I was a rarity in this regard. Someone I know asked me to craft Answers. NP! He gave me mats for 2 scrolls which I did... but doesnt he just go from me without a tip shouting "Selling Answers scroll finished 3M" I wanted to fullfill some murder :/
