How important is quelling for SMN?

I just hit 60 and I haven't leveled archer past 4 for raging strikes, but now with DWT and ruin III I seem to be getting aggro a lot more easily than I used to. This isn't usually a problem in dungeons, but aggro between me and titan egi switched back and forth a lot when I'm doing solo stuff.

It's not as critical for SMN compared to BLM for a couple of reasons. First, part of your overall damage output is pet-based, which doesn't count against your enmity generation. Second, because there's a bit of a ramp-up time to full damage output with SMN you're less likely to peel off of the tank in most situations.

It's not bad to have and use, but it's not as critical overall.

As for peeling off of Titan-Egi, that's going to happen. I just made it a priority to send in Titan first, then make sure I can kill whatever is coming after me before it hits me.

Quelling is not as important for SMN, but you can still generate a lot of aggro on new adds if you were to Tri-disaster into Bane and Deathflare. Most tanks will have trouble keeping hate with an opener like that.

If you are raiding, then definitely important. While most competent tanks will be able to maintain emnity off an SMN during the opener, they will have to work harder. If you pop quelling, they (the tanks) can potentially output more DPS because they will have to cycle less emnity thus resulting in an overall DPS gain. If you don't raid its pretty much a non-issue.

If you start with RS+Trisaster, like I do in some fights, too much crits will get you to top without QS.

Also for every dungeon boss and add pack where you start with DWT and Trisaster+3xAetherflow(+RS) up.

In a normal environment, Quelling isn't really necessary. If a SMN is ripping hate then the mobs are probably going to die before they are a threat anyway. Savage is another story. My SMM opener wipes my static if I don't use Quelling Strikes.

Just if a Tank as a noob you need it on opener, otherwise not is so necessary like as in BLM or BRD.

I don't even have it unlocked and I've been a smn main since RR came out. The only time I'd think I would need it is when adds show up and I already have my 3 dots on the main target so I can bane right away. Even then it doesn't take tanks long to pull them off me.........then there's those times when I open with death flare because I turned on DWT during the last pull and I didn't want it to go to waste but that's my fault lol

The main time I use quelling is between trash mobs when my dreadwyrm/aethertrail stacks are about to fall off and so my deathflare comes early in the pull.

I use it on trash pulls, for the most part, and here-and-there during boss fights. Our AOEs for a new trash pack can pull hate easily (the tridisaster > bane > Painflare > DWT) or you'll have times when the stacks to get into DWT are about to fall off and you don't want to lose them so you use DWT before or as the tank is pull or there's a couple seconds left and you want to the finisher on the new pack. Things like that. I'm sure most tanks love us for that. I didn't need it at all before the expert dungeons, though.

I use it for on my BLM way more often. I can see how titan would fight for hate though. XD
