Legacy and playing with a controller. So easy to move around. For melee classes, I tend to lock on and just break lockon if I have to run away.

My wife couldn't figure it out at all until I set her up with a controller. Now she plays with a controller and uses the mouse for pet commands and other functions.

WASD for movement, I don't use strafe at all. Legacy control scheme.
Mouse for camera movement, which feel natural to control while WASD moving to me. But then again I'm just used to it as I've not played a game where you click to move to destination for a very long time.

Heh, I actually have all my movement bound to the numpad, 2,4,6 and 8 and changed my arrow keys to control my camera, wasd has been changed to target cycling and I don't use the mouse at all... But I spent 6 years playing ffxi where that was the default.
I use the same setup, also bound 7/9 to strafe and auto run to the plus key. While i didn't play FFXI, I started playing XIV with someone who did. We setup the same keybinds to help figure things out early on.
Also a question: Is there a way to jump on a mount using a controller? Or control elevation when flying? Sometimes I will fly using my controller when looking for hunts or whatever.
Cheers
Legacy and mouse/kb or controller..dependingHard to play SMN on controller sadly so I use KB mostly lol
