OK, I admit it--I am casual...is there a place for me in FFXIV??

I admit it--I am a casual video game player. I am not "hardcore,", I am a 43 year old Dad who has been playing video games since the Atari 2600.

I have a Level 50-something in this game, but I never did the 2nd part of the Coils, nor am I that great in big raids (I seem to die and I am guessing my DPS sucks).

As I consider getting back into this game, I have to ask--is it casual-friendly? Is it worth finding a good free company or something (or just watching YouTube videos) to get better at the raids and my class (Bard, which I am NOT good at...I just usually pick the archer in fantasy games).

    Thanks for any constructive feedback!

I really casual and I'm doing fine.

Also not being good now doesn't mean you can't improve. No one starts out beast.

Yes casuals outnumber the so called hardcore 10 to 1. Have fun, enjoy the game, and don't worry about what some have to say. I'd suggest finding a casual FC and play with your FC mates as much as you can. Don't worry about getting to end game given there is ton of content along the way you can enjoy and have fun with.

You'd have a harder time finding the opposite.

This mmo is almost purely designed for casual, very very little hardcore content in the game at all.

Only exception is Savage Alex, which only drops gear needed to do savage alex easier.... yea outside the satisfaction of clearing the prestige no real reason to even do it.

The rest of the game is more or less casual.

Maybe having fun by doing something challenging?
If the only purpose is the gear, then there's no purpose at all because as you said the gear only helps you to make current content easier. That means that you don't need the gear to clear Midas savage, and the gear will be obsolete on next end game raid.

You're fine as long as you're not looking for challenging content. The gap between normal and savage mode is incredibly huge that you'd need to do a couple of hours a night, few times a week in order to make meaningful progression. As a new player you're definitely not going to run out of things to do at least until the next expansion (assuming they follow the same approach and downfalls as 3.x's release anyway)

You're in a good place. As others have said, there is really challenging content included, but it's segregated from the rest of the game and not required in any way for you to enjoy yourself. Dungeons, trials, alliance raids, 10 man groups, and loads of story content, 'sall good.

I'm midcore. and I find there is lots for me to do. And it doesn't take long to be right back in it after taking 2 months off. Which I just did and I already got 1 job geared up to ilevel 223. that's less then 3 weeks after a big patch

    Commendations.
If I play dps I only give it out to other dps.
If I play tank I only give it out to healers.
If I play healer I only give it out to tank.

Only if they should be getting a commendation.
There are always exceptions to the rules!

The only midcore content in this game is Weeping City and Trials, how is that tons to do?
