Every group I have gone with from Day 1 is Map owner rules. It may not seem fair to everyone but you still get rewards and gil for just coming in from the random encounters like Goblins. However I go with Friends and FC and we all feel it is fair.

Most of the groups in Carbuncle I've seen / been a part of are "Map owner only rolls need. Everyone brings 1 map."
I think this is very fair.
Because everyone has a chance to get materia / items / gold in the dungeon anyway.
One group I joined did not specify rules before I joined. They asked me to go first. When I opened the chest the Bluebird appeared. I have been looking for it for a long time. And THEN the leader of the group said "free roll" and everyone rolled Need. Of course, I didn't win the roll.
I was thinking "who does free roll?" Later I found out that it was a premade group for 4 people who had already done their own maps and then later invited 3 more people and asked them to do theirs first. So after the 3 new people did 2 maps each, the leader of the group disbanded the group.
So while us new 3 people had no chances to get any gil / loot (non-rollable loot) from the other's maps, they had chances to get loot and gil from their own maps PLUS our maps.
Long story short, from the combined Aquapolis runs (surprising 5 of the 6 chests opened the Aquapolis) I only got gil and ONE materia. ZERO loot from free rolls. One of the people who was in the premade group who opened none of his own maps got the bluebird AND the majority of the chest loot.
Never doing Free Rolls again.
My FC/Friends and I generally go: "everyone greeds and map owner needs if they really want it"
We find it fair. I mean, the maps are either gather 1 every 18 hours or fairly expensive on the market board. I wouldn't be happy if I spent a lot of time or gil to get a few maps only for people who didn't do that to get the items from them.
I've only done with FC. And it's gone like this.
after a few times out..
Outside your map your drops.
Inside Minnons your map your drop
Inside Everything else FFA
Commendations.
If I play dps I only give it out to other dps.
If I play tank I only give it out to healers.
If I play healer I only give it out to tank.
Only if they should be getting a commendation.
There are always exceptions to the rules!
I don't have any problem with people setting up those rules tbh.
If I don't like the rules I simply don't join.
It's easy to create a pf for yourself wtih w/e rules you like or just ask ppl from your FL/FC/LS you can trust![]()
My groups have always been map owner rolls, everyone else passes. Auto-distributed loot is yours to keep if you get it.
We made theis a twice weekly FC event, it's really improved particiaption in the FC.
Usually 3 maps each on a Monday, 4 on a Friday. Probably 3-4 people bring maps.
Outside, big drops go to the map owner
Inside everyone lots. Lets face it, everyone takes part in killing the monsters, why should 1 person get all of the chest loot? They can't kill all the mobs, Argos the cyclops or Dave the treasure Goblin by themselves.
When my FC does maps, everything is free-for-all. Except if the rabbit ever drops because I will kill anyone who outrolls me.
Generally I don't roll on minions I do have (I collect them, so 9/10 I'll have whatever minion drops anyway) unless my boyfriend doesn't have them, then I roll on them and give them to him. He got a Nutkin today that way. c:
But I also have friends I do maps with who aren't in my FC and their rule is generally map owner gets all rollable loot (unless stated otherwise), and whatever you get in your inventory is your loot. It works out pretty well, everyone still makes really good money and the map owner doesn't have to worry about people looting and scooting, especially on nice minions.

I go back and forth on this issue. I only do maps with my close friends, never with strangers. Actually, my first experience with Aqua was an IRL friend asked me to join their map farming group, and I said sure because I had nothing to really do (still burnt out on dungeons after finishing the 210 relic step on bard--and then farming esos for aether oils). The party consisted of two strangers and two of my friends. Immediately one stranger asked me if I had any maps. I said regretfully that I didn't because lack of money (damn you, relic HQ items!), and that my gatherers weren't high enough yet to gather the maps. I had no intentions really of rolling on anything because this was just something to occupy my time, and my inventory only had 2 free slots anyways. One stranger was fine with that--didn't really care. The other blatantly refused to let me continue with them because he didn't want to share his map with someone who "couldn't be bothered" to provide their own maps. I was like "Wow really dude. Wasn't even going to roll on anything but whatever. Laters." And I left. His map yielded nothing, my friends left the party, and invited me to farm their 10 maps with them because they had no patience for that guy's attitude either.
I don't mind sharing the loot from my maps with my friends. Most of the stuff I don't roll on anyways/don't care to get because my crafters aren't high enough level yet to use any of those crafting mats. If I get them, I usually give them to my omni-crafter friend for him to use/make me pretty glamour items. I understand the idea of map owner getting first choice on things they really, really want. But I actually got pretty mad at one friend because the Needed on everything--even stuff they didn't really need and just sold on the MB--and I got shat on essentially. Yeah, I'm probably being a bit salty, but considering they were preaching about sharing and then didn't...it kind of frustrated me. We made it to the 7th floor--I had literally gotten nothing I wanted, three minions had dropped, plus multiple glamours--and my friends all got tier V materia from the last chest's auto drops while I got Gil. That was it. Oh, and some clusters. Oh man I was mad. Yeah, I know RNG is to blame there but the two items I piped up and said I really wanted (glamour) I didn't get because friend rolling Need on them.
It wasn't even really me not getting anything, just the hypocrisy of "yeah I'll share unlike that jerk earlier!" "Greed only rules unless it's minions!" And then rolling Need on everything.

it should be simple really.
It should always be Map owner priority, and make sure everyone brings the same amount of maps.
The only time it should be FFA is if everyone donated the money to buy the maps together.
