Help me figure out a crafting discrepency

Ok, here's the deal. My gatherers have hit lvl 51 so I decided I'd start making the gear for them. But, not all my crafters are 51 yet, just my GSM. I started off with the GSM making the mythrite goggles of gathering with HQ mats, and pretty much had no problems HQing the craft. But when I started making the Archaoskin Gloves of Gathering with HQ mats with my level 50 LTW, everything was MUCH harder. I wasted the first seven steps on progress alone, and I was using Ingenuity II. The remaining steps on quality only got me to 22% and of course, the craft ended up being NQ.

I'm using the same gear on both craftesr (Artisan set, i55 tools) and the craftsmanship and quality stats are both the same (337 C, 332 Q). Both recipes are at level 51 with the same difficulty (421). So why then did my LTW who is only a level behind my GSM and who shares the exact same gear and stats have a MUCH harder time making the same level recipe?

If I'm not mistaken, there is a hidden difficulty curve between 50-51 because of the level cap increase.

    That's what I was thinking.

One crafting level difference from 51 - 60 is closer to 5 levels difference from 1 - 50. The scaling changes quite a bit.

Level 51 crafts are continuing from level 50 4 star crafts, which were a good deal harder than the standard level 50 ones, so naturally level 51 will be a good deal tougher.

TC, you basically ran afoul of the under-level penalty.

This penalty was not very severe in ARR (until you hit 3 and 4 star crafts at 50). But in HW it is huge. If you want an easy time in crafting HW recipes, be at least equal to the level of the recipe you want to craft, and have as many CP as humanly possible.

Ideally, make yourself this set as it can carry you all the way to lvl 55 if you upgrade your primary and secondary weapons along the way. You'll play a little fast and loose with RNG, especially if you skip a tool upgrade-- which I did-- but it can save you some gil. GC turn-ins are huge for leveling crafts to 60. You can gain upwards of a million EXP a day at the latter levels. Moogle dailies also net some good EXP now too.
