R40 company leve: "Protect Scout/Alchemist" are a bit broken.

Leve location: Camp Bald Knoll R40 Maelstrom Company levequest.
Leve name: An eye for an herb

Note: These are supposed to be solo leves! You can't invite party members to them. Just remember that when you read what I have to say.

Reason I wanted to make this post was about these company leves being a bit broken in my opinion is that... I'm a R44 pugilist at the moment, I choose 1 star difficulty for these leves to get R40 mobs, when I cannot do it with 2 stars when the mobs would be lvl 43. Problem isn't killing lvl 43 mobs, or lvl 40 mobs, it's the AMOUNT of mobs that you get. For example, I can kill all the mobs that are coming at me on 1 star difficulty, just fine, one comes, I kill it, another one comes, I kill that one too, about 3 mins left on the leve, I get 7 mobs at once? Whats up with that? The mobs hadn't even been piling up, I was killing them at normal speed, yet suddenly, bam, I get 7 mobs, and I fail to keep the scout/alchemist alive. Ain't this a bit broken really? Should you really get 7 mobs on you all at once? This doesn't always happen, after the third time it happened, on doing this leve for the 10th time on my pug, I started to question this being a bug, which my all means is definitely not a feature haha.

I can't AOE well as a pugilist, I do have an AOE attack, but it's not worth doing mostly because of the low damage, as it'll only get you killed when most of the mobs will start spamming TP attacks to you when you feed the whole bunch enormous amounts of TP by aoeing them. That does not work. I have four rank 50's in addition to my R44 pugilist, those are MRD, GLAD, CON and THM, I have all the defensive abilities, all the spells and protection I could possibly need, and my gear isn't too outdated either (it's R35 gear). Yet, I still fail to protect the alchemist/scout, even if I toss in a heal or two, just getting 7 mobs at once, is too much. I'd really love to see a pure pugilist (no other ranks) try this levequest, and see how quick he falls dead when you suddenly get all those mobs at you. My personal opinion is that this isn't working as intended, any comments from the GM's on this one?

You might want to post this in the bug report section (make sure to fill out the form thing in the sticky). I remember this happening to me when i did some company leves on CNJ a while back, and while it didn't happen often it was very overwhelming when it did, so I'm with you in thinking it is a bug.

You can run out and look for mobs before they randomly appear and invade, thus making the final wave consist of less mobs. It puts the guy you're protecting at risk, but it makes the final wave easier to control.

I have completed the Gridania version of this one numerous times on my PGL, but I didn't join a company until I was already either r43 or 44, so that would be the earliest level I attempted it at. I don't have any trouble with it, including increasing the stars. It is a pretty fun leve actually. I don't recall having 7 mobs at a time though - usually they start with one or two, sometimes 3, and I kill them pretty quickly, with what seems to me a gap of time waiting for the next batch to appear. I toss a cure 1 and a stoneskin on the NPC during that time.

I do not have outdated gear however, but I don't have anything all that fancy either. When I did the leve the first few times it was in all dated gear plus a new weapon. I think the key is killing the mobs fast enough so that you have time between attacks to check on the NPC. I do use the PGL AoE to make sure all hate is on me and not the NPC, and I voke the mob if it is smacking the NPC.

Not sure if it is working correctly at other locations, but for the Twin Adders, it seems to be working correctly, and is both fun and slightly more challenging than most other leves.

^This. There are mobs roaming even far from the NPC. If you don't kill them, they'll come after the NPC at the same time. At least you should kill one of them if you find it on your way to the NPC and search for the rest once you've managed to defeat first attackers.

This has nothing to do with killing the mobs fast enough. When I did get that 7 mobs at once on me, there wasn't anything near him, they just kept popping every 10 seconds, do you really expect to kill a mob of your own level in that time? no. They just pile up before you can kill one. That's the bug here, too fast spawns, I might've mis-interpreted myself, they didn't run to me as a "pack of 7", instead they just popped every 10 seconds, without being able to kill one, I soon had all the 7 on me at once.

Before that happened, I had succesfully killed the ones that came to me, and had a little bit of time to wait for the next ones to appear. So that's not the issue what I'm after here.

Edit: Even with having the mobs at way below your level didn't prevent the mobs from piling up, as they just came quickly. I still do think this is not supposed to happen.

Before 1.19 i had problems like this on a couple of the regular defense leves out in Limsa, the one with yarzons (Yarz On Me?) and the other with eyes and bombs in particular. Normal waves were like 2-3 mobs but every once in a while it's like i would get 2 waves at once and end up with 5-7 on me at once. I suspect it's the same kind of issue here.
