Thread: It's 1.20 not 1.2

The next patch is one twenty not one two or one two thousand. 1.9 is lower than 1.10 because its one nine and one ten, the period only acts as a separator. There's zero math going on here beyond it going up incrementally. Great job being as wrong as the WoW forums when this came up.

Is there anything you guys don't argue about?

As the OP and Tira have said, SE calls the patch 1.20, which is not the same as 1.2 or 1.200.

From a software developer perspective this makes sense. And for those looking at this like math, I can see why you would come to your conclusion.

The patch numbering does not indicate how close they are to 2.0.

And this topic will resurface should the day come where we get to 2.9 and you see 2.10 instead of 3.0.

I do appreciate your open-endedness on this. Those of us beating the horse on the software period versus a decimal are really trying to convince the others like Defmetal, Kopuno, and the other 38 people that could have liked your post for this reason.

We just want to be on the same page when we're talking or when a fan site translates a post from SE. When we see someone say, 1.2, we give benefit of the doubt that they're talking about 1.20 due to context.

But when someone says their operating system is "Windows 2003/2007/2010" or they use "Office XP/Vista/7", we can't give the benefit of the doubt anymore and for clarity purposes, need to make sure we're on the same page. Being the tech-junkies that we are, just want to make sure that the customers are using the correct labels. It's nothing against you.

On a "Let's Hijack the Thread" topic, since we're still slapping the horse, a proper abbreviation of Japanese is JPN and/or JP. Please do NOT use jap.

unnecessary backstory, I'm a quest NPC, this can be skipped:
Not every Japanese person cares, some of us might have been on the receiving end of the hate tentacle when it's used as a racial slur. The slur has been used to refer to me numerous times with malice in it back in the wonderful world of high school and some college. I know not everyone uses it that way and I tries to give the benefit of the doubt when folks write it. Either they didn't mean it that way, they weren't aware, or usually in the latter case, don't care. Sometimes they follow-up with a suspend-worthy snarky post (don't do it!).

Just thought I would throw that out there.
