Roegadyns, like every vanilla race in this game, is a counterpart to an FF XI race. In this case, the Galka.

While it is right to assume the race has an animal-esque derivation (like us Miqo'te to felines), the Galka/Roes are in fact ursine - hence their broad frames and large sizes. Of course, since this is Hydaelin and not Vana'diel, they have many contrasts and differences. However, the key trait of the "bear nose" is retained in their design - similarly to how some Lalafels have darker noses, the Tarutaru have those.

Now, if there's any reason in-lore for those noses, if they grant any survival mechanism to their environments, etcetera, I have yet to find.

Except there are already 2 (if not 3 in Moenbryda's case) that do not have the blackened nose. I don't think its genetic. While I'm not sure about Gosetsu's case, I presume that Gorge doesn't have it due to his bad standing. I haven't seen anything in lore so far to explain it. Gorge is clearly a Hellsguard. Gosestu appears to be Hellsguard with his skintone, but his nose is shaped differently which may also suggest he is a mix race. The Hellsgaurd are superstitious, with their lore based very much on Native American tribes, which helps me come to the conclusion that the black mark is indeed cosmetic and not genetic.
