Thinking about transferring my character to Tonberry

    Hi everyone,

I am a returned player after leaving the game for about two years. Before I left ffxiv, my FC was very active but now it's quiet. It's worse with my work schedule. I usually stay up late and away in the afternoon (PST). The max amount of FC members I see online is 3 out of 100+ and we don't talk because they are all max lvl and sometimes they are afk.

I did some research online and found out that Tonberry is mainly made up of Australians, Singaporeans and Japanese. I think Tonberry's time zone fits mine better.

However, I don't speak J/D/F and I live in US using NA server. My questions are:

    1) I wonder how is the latency as of 2017? I read some threads on reddit and forum but they were back from 2016 and earlier.

    2) Since 50% of the people on Tonberry don't speak English, is it hard to communicate? Do people get frustrated because of language barrier?

    3) Is there anything I should know before I transferring to Tonberry?

    Many thanks!

Hello, I was in the same situation as you from Lamia as well with a busy schedule and coming home to a dead night server!

    1) It's pretty much the same as reddit has suggested, 100-200 from Melbourne. It ultimately depends on your location in Australia and it's proximity to Japan.
    2) Yes and no, we use the auto-translate which is sufficient for most content as Japanese players understand the mechanics more so than NA players. If you're doing new content though, it is advised you do the content with players from Tonberry to know how do mechanics or watch/read guides on how to do content. They also don't rage quit as often after wiping allowing the ability to learn given you are not hopeless. (Your class rotation is understood and not pathetic)
    3) A lot of things, like:
    • How much money you're wanting to transfer. You might lose over 70% of your gil with transfer rates if the gil rate has not changed since last November since Lamia gold is hugely worthless due to high amounts of RMT on the server.
    • No housing is available unless you buy it from another player (same as Lamia?).
    • Economy is vastly different as Japanese culture is different making it more difficult to earn money through gathering/crafting in comparison to NA.
    • If you're looking for something different from Lamia, EG Raiding/RPing/PVP, have you considered the NA alternatives of Gilgamesh/Balmung? Tonberry is only a slight step better than Lamia but no huge step if you're interested in these things. If you like PVP, a lot of it is in Japanese so the language barrier definitely swings hard there
