You're doing an amazing job at trolling with your input in this thread, because there's no plausible way that you would realistically compare a game that has 11 years worth of development and content to one that has barely been out 3 after a complete relaunch. Right?
We already proved this wrong pages ago...are you sure you aren't trolling? I posted a link with the update history of ffxi, and again...upon 3 years of released content in xi there was way more and all the content was relevant...3 years later. :/You're doing an amazing job at trolling with your input in this thread, because there's no plausible way that you would realistically compare a game that has 11 years worth of development and content to one that has barely been out 3 after a complete relaunch. I played XI when the cap was 75 for a fairly long time (started well before CoP but after Zilart and played most of Aht Urgan) and I want to say that wasn't necessarily a good thing. Three years of having to camp HNM's, three years of the same gear still being the best (yes there were side grades but as a drk main, I would never be able to get anything better than an Adaman Hauberk which I never managed to get), and three years farming things in Sky and nearly as long farming things in Sea. I wouldn't want to farm the same content for that long ever again, having to farm the same ilevel of gear over and over again gets very tiresome.
I'm all for obsoleting old content for new stuff.
This is awesome. I was a blm in XI. The chart doesn't even show lvl 76-99 abilities and spells, as well as the subjob possibilities.[/QUOTE]
Holy crap, that's really how complicated BLM in XI was?
Actually looks fun......
You're comparing two games that are based on two completely different models, then citing the fact that, in your opinion, running the same content for three years is somehow superior to having content that offers equipment in a vertical progression system more easily accessible to a wide player base.
You're biased, it's all right. The majority of the people in this thread championing an outdated game and complaining for all of these throwback archaic ideas are. Remember how great 1.0 was? No? Because it had a bunch of the things people seem to be asking for. XI was good while it lasted, but saying it was a better game for reasons not present in any current MMO model due to them being outdated seems counterintuitive. You're also discounting that all "old" content from FFXIV is completely worthless, so the glamour, materials, mounts, orchestrion rolls, etc. have been deemed completely worthless to you, but to some it's a valid reason to complete the content. Or roulette rewards. Or running it with friends. Or generally trying to enjoy the game without picking it apart because it isn't just XI. The thing you'll have to concede is that while XI "made content relevant for 3 years" is due to the fact that "horizontal" gear progression was a technicality. There was just a great weapon, like the Kraken Club, locked behind something. The only difference is that generally in XIVthey put it behind new content. They put Aether Oils to upgrade the Anima weapon in the CT Raids. Is that not enough? They made a large scale quest with twelve different methods of completion including all Beast Tribes from 2.X, Alexander Midas, and the ARR Hunts. What do you want? How do you propose we make content more relevant than it actually is when you aren't being completely oblivious to it? Can you not rationalize that no matter where they put the best weapon it will still be the best weapon?
This entire thread is a long, drawn out post by the same people over and over and over again making apples-to-oranges comparisons to games that, quite frankly, if they were released now as an alternative would fail. Functional suggestions work, but citing ideas that are nothing more than old ideas from FFXI are hardly functional. I'm not saying the game is perfect. We all get a little tired or lazy sometimes, we all get stuck with an Aurum Vale in Roulette that makes you want to claw your eyes out. Difference is after it's over we don't run to the Forum and s***post about how everything was so awesome ten years ago. Y'know, when there were like 3 options. Take a break. If you want this game to be XI, it's not going to. Hope 4.0 brings about some exciting changes that will rekindle your love for it, or drive you away forever. Your missing dollars are a functional catalyst for change, not asking for archaic content.

I'm playing XI now, really fun game.
My biggest regret is not playing it when it was new, didn't have good internet back then and parents didn't want to pay sub fee so I settled with FFX instead.
Wow, Watera, Stoneaga, Fira, etc.
Actual spell tiers that make sense rather than the confusing numbering system that makes them sound like upgrades rather than new spells.
Whatever Koji's reasoning behind it was I'll never agree with. I, IV, VI only had numbered spells due to space limitations on the consoles and VII's localization was bad and the fact that later ports of said games corrected them to how they're said in Japanese just proves that's what the spells should have been called.
Lore wise in this game what do spell casters call their spells? Thunder 2? Sounds dumb.
Final Fantasy XIV is Final Fantasy XIV, they're not lying at all. If you think about it 2.0 is an overhaul, yes, but what comes before 2? 1.FFXIV: A Realm Reborn was published in August 2013. It has a different staff and different content. It's a different game. The previous game doesn't even exist so I don't understand why you cling onto the idea that they are one and the same. Frankly you are discrediting any proper argument you have by spewing blatant lies.
Also it doesn't matter how long it was in the works. Every game is in the works for quite some time before it's official release.
It's the same game in a sense and nope, 2.0 recycled a ton of content from 1.0.
Just feel like pointing out, XI still makes money from subs each month with it "being outdated".
Now, let's take a look at those big fresh current mmos with the current model. How many of those continued? Remember SWTOR? That was pretty much WoW in space, didn't last for crap on p2p. How about Wildstar? From the looks of it, Black Desert doesn't seem to be doing as great as it was hyped it to be. Archeage? Blade and soul? Countless others since 2005 that have come out and completely vanished.
Now tell me, which of those would you consider a better game? One that's lasted for 14 years and still on a subscription with monthly content updates that are fun or one that dies off in under 2 years like a majority of the modern mmos?
Modern mmos tend to forget what formula made people enjoy mmos in the beginning and try to turn them into mobile games. That's one of the reasons a lot of modern mmos fail, too much focus on content that dies or is dead on release. Sure, people might say quick pick up and play things are fun and sometimes they can be, but for an entire mmo to be based on that is a disgrace to what made mmos great. It makes the mmo stale and turns away potential players.
I'm not saying everything has to be a massive grind, but that is technically the point of a mmo, to keep you playing every single day of every single month, not this "play for a week, then unsub until the next update" crap. Which of those two do you think would make a company more money?

I prefer the numbered elemental spells over these ra,ga,ja versions.
