I'm sure people have taken breaks at some point and breaks for this game sadly doesn't do much in my opinion. I have taken a break and came back and i still had the same feeling before i took my break.
In all honesty for an MMORPG this game is too shallow and hardly any of it has longevity to it. They already said when they design items they design it around the lowest common denominator and in my opinion you should never design it like that only a fool would do that and the result is gear is pretty much useless and holds no bearing and utterly boring. When I get a new piece of gear I want to be excited after I get it...that doesn't happen in this game when i get a new piece of gear i hardly feel any excitement because i already know 2 patches later its useless.
The same for raids I enjoy challenge but i also want cool loot from it. The fact that they design it around that they want everyone to be at the same strength really kills some of the motivation some people have for raiding if they are in it for good loot. Now people can just wait a patch and get upgrade items from 24 man why put in the extra effort in raids just to get something early? Makes it even worse how with the release of Heavensward they pretty much killed the raid scene.
You might be right but sadly things like mini-games get boring very fast. Look at Chocobo racing why play this delayed racing mini game when i can just turn on my WII U and have fun in Mario Kart 8? or Lords of Verminion no one even does this so that was a waste if people want to play RTS they will get a RTS game which is more in-depth and interesting. Housing is a mess in this game because not everyone can even get a house. PVP people have given feedback to remove GC restrictions but they won't so the queues take forever so of course people won't do it.
The simple fact is and i'm sure SE has learned if the content that is being released doesn't help the person in some way of progression they won't bother. Diadem was a bit of a mess but people could got great gear and you could effectively gear alts from it and numerous people were doing it even though it was just farming one island then they changed how often you can get the highest item level and everyone vanished and Diadem died. People do Aquapolis because it can go towards progression and earning good gil like grade 5 materia but at the same time can give glamour so it fits both worlds. Now they are making it so in Palace of the Dead when you reach a certain point in upgrading your weapon you can use it outside and its not just glamour it will compare to a 230 weapon and you can somewhat level alts in there.
The amount of people i see AFKing in Idyllshire and housing areas is astounding and it really makes me wonder if there is that much content.
