Personally, I have to compare it to this:

I've been in this long, long, looooooooooooooooong car ride, bored as all hell, waiting to get to this awesome destination. And I'm still waiting. I'm waiting for the clincher that really pulls me into this game. Sadly, that hasn't happened yet and I'm not sure that will ever happen.

We have a few people in our FC that have never player XI. I've been going back and forth about going back to XI and playing through it with them.

XI had amazing storytelling and I expected XIV to be on par, but it's not. It's not even close. Ask me about the stories from XI that I played 8-9 years ago? I can recount those no problem. Ask me about XIV MSQ or other quests? Pft, no clue. Started up the MSQ with this patch and I had no clue what was going on. It's not memorable to me.

I'm not really playing now because I like the game.

At the minimum, I logon to : Weekly - WC, VA, Craft + Gather red scrips. Daily: Trial + Expert roulette <<--- this is SOOOOOOO BORING.

I'm playing because of friends, as several others have mentioned. This should not be the case though.

There is something absolutely wrong with their status quo if people are playing the game, not because the game is good and worthy of playing, but because of people, and they need to start being aware of this.
