Yeah i'm pretty much done with this game myself. Has nothing new to offer but the same old grind. I can't even make anymore friends in this cus they all have left because of the same reasons the OP said. I called it at release of 2.0 that the game wasn't complex enough to keep players interested in playing for long periods. Patches didn't have enough content cus players we're clearing it too fast cus it wasn't complex enough.

Its quite clear that they aren't working on the patches on the game as much as they should be, but instead investing all their man power on working on getting the next expansion pack out each year. Most of there fans come from XI and they basically toss them to the side. (We stayed around 1.0 so you guys would still have jobs to make ARR.)

I feel the same as you I predicted this long time ago and made some posts on forum saying that this game didn't have enough content but new players couldn't understand because they were still leveling up and that was keeping them busy.
I see a lot of people leaving the game and very few of them actually stay, of all the people I invited in my FC a lot of them quit and never came back to the game because it wasn't pulling their interest or wasn't fun enough.

I've read every page of this thread, and it has to be one of the most asinine things I've ever seen.

Having a history of hardcore gameplay in MMO's such as EQ, FFXI, and even WoW, I can clearly see who's doing this complaining. It's the 8 hours a day players who are looking for this "deeper more involved content" here.

First off, Iromi, I could go back and actually quote your old posts, but I don't really feel like it. In this thread alone you've explained how you've done everything in this game. All while attending college full time and working full time along side a boyfriend who allegedly has the same responsibilities as you. Let's be clear here, there's no need to lie about your out of game activitites.. just be honest. you have played A LOT of FFXIV and have done it all, and that's fine. There's no need to make it sound like the game is SO EASY that ANYONE with a few hours and some determination can complete everything. They can't. So, yea.

Back to the topic at hand... There are many, like myself, who have done the hardcore. For people like myself, the middle of the road difficulty or even outright easy difficulty for some content works just fine. I'm offered enough challenge to keep myself interested (Nidhogg, Mcach), and enough busy work to enjoy myself until the next 3.x. This game, from what I can tell, was never meant to be your FFXI. It's not meant to be your WoW, It's certainly not meant to be your EQ. it's FFXIV:ARR, and it's trying to fit it's own niche.

It has content for crafters, gatherers, RPers, Casuals, Hardcores, and those inbetween. It has an involved FF story arc, and it requires you complete it. It tries to cater mostly to people like myself - those that love FF and are happy to play in a Theme Park MMO that idolizes it. It's supposed to be accessible. It's SUPPOSED to be doable.

If the developers wanted to cater to those hardcores that want to feel like their time was valued, they likely would have already. It's been years thus far. They haven't. Hardcores are given some content that they do complete. To ask them to fundamentally change the game (ilvl jumps, stat distribution, and / or item effects for longevity)so you can feel special is futile.

In short, that's what not what FFXIV:ARR was ever supposed to be. You had some fun in 2.0 and up, there was content there that made you feel special. I'm sorry if you don't today and are tired of the formula. If you're looking for games that have what you want, then listen to what other people say - PLAY THOSE GAMES! They exist BTW. Try some Dark Souls for difficulty. Maybe play EVE online, with unrelenting and punishing space piracy and cutthroat PvP. You could play WoW for your raid focus content... or even go back to the old games, like FFXI or even emulated old school EQ.

Don't try to change FFXIV to something it was never intended to be. It will never work.

If you are a new FFXIV player instead, I can see why you don't see the issues.

Problem isn't just with hardcore its everything. What good is content if you complete 90% of the patch in 3 days and have nothing else to do for 3 months? Your suggestion is to unsub and play something else? Good idea.

Sorry to say but if you consider Mhach and Nidhogg challenging content you're not a raider, therefor you're missing the point of this thread and shouldn't be calling yourself hardcore either.

It was never meant to be XI, but seems to me a copy paste of the WoW formula, do you see where WoW went? It's where this game is going because they are following the same formula, WoW worked back then because it was Unique, not the first MMO but did so many things well that if it was today and considering how many more people have internet these days it could have double the subs, FFXIV is trying to be the new WoW but they didn't understand yet that WoW isn't WoW anymore, but a shadow of a once amazing game from what i've seen.

I've predicted Aion and TERA future and people laughed at me on the forums, a few months later they went F2P, while i don't see this game going F2P, not because it won't get into such state, because it can, but because i'd see Square preferring to shut it down than turning it into F2P, even XI is still sub based and how many players does it have? There's a good example why this game won't go F2P, but no way it'll be in good shoes either.

These days a lot more people have Internet, no point comparing numbers between XI and XIV when taking that into account.

Actually I know this person... and you really shouldnt go assuming things you clearly dont understand, the fact of the matter is what Iromi says is true and ill back it 150%. Just because you dont know how to balance your priorities doesnt mean this game is perfect as is, I like the game but it has a lot of work that is needed

I came back sometime recently and my free company has hollowed out with just 5-7 active players left, the leader citing lack of content each patch as his reason for not coming back and /randoming lead to another fc member. He's playing granblue fantasy now apparently. It didn't take long before i was back to the F2P esque repeat everyday incentives model from 2.0. Only now they've expanded it into every facet of the game x.x battle content, gathering, crafting, daily quests. I'm hoping deep dungeons will keep me going as i loved Nyzul isle in XI, it's excruciating waiting for it to come out.
