    I don't have citation, but the last time this was talked about in a live letter it wasn't met with the community shut down, so it's pretty possible we could get a server just for PvP. However, there was talk of having a very noticeable warning regarding the fact that it wasn't a normal server. If anything it would allow them to get more feedback on pvp for balancing.

    If they created a PvP server, all 18 people who join the server would be able to buy whatever housing plot they wanted.

    My statements still stand, based largely on many valid reasons presented before. But let's clarify:

    No GC Restriction: a great idea. Might even bring more people in. But then what? Complete free for all? How would any kind of team play be regulated. Light/Full parties? Alliances? It starts to sound a little Frontline-y at that point.

    DoH/DoL: I know people that craft in open world cause they like to. Give them protected status and that becomes exploitable (unless say, job switching in a PvP area now has a cast time). And the idea of ephemeral/unspoiled nodes certainly doesn't play well with OWPVP.

    Hunts/FATEs: PvPvE, basically. I like it, but again, how would it be regulated? Light/Full parties = teams? How about late arrials that get no invites? Or less than light parties? People that LIKE to solo? Sucks to be them. . . Until it's you.

    With the current content that exists in the open world, much of it would need massive overhauling or total removal/restriction to sustain an OWPVP map/server, and again, it becomes impractical at that point.

    And I didn't even touch upon caster/healer balances. . .

    But wouldn't it be the same in the end really? If you want them to enforce teamplay then it's just like the PvP we have now except GC restrictionan (and queues). Groups of players running around fighting other groups. The only real difference would be that there are no nodes to capture to secure points.

    And where in the world/story of FFXIV would open world PvP fit in? What is the reason why people would run around mindlessly slaughter one another? Other games with open world PvP have a background to why each faction fights. Don't forget that this is an RPG (RolePlaying Game) so can't just throw things in because you feel like it, it also have to fit in.

    I would much rather that they added a Duel system. It's more common that adventurers testet their skills with each others than slaugher one another for no reason.

    I ask with all seriousness: did you try the Feast? One of the things I loved about the Feast was the non-GC restriction. . . Yet still I couldn't get many of my friends to try it. I even offered to set up 8v8 (which is unranked) matches to help them learn in an environment where they didn't have to worry about mistakes or ragey players. . . And they still avoided it like the plague.

    GC restrictions aren't the problem. An annoyance and a hinderance, yes, but not a problem. Player interest on a larger scale is the problem.

    How is it the same when you're comparing instanced pvp vs open world pvp? You don't have the freedom, what we have now is smash the head against the keyboard pvp, with objectives, in open world there's no objectives, you attack whoever you want and get rewarded/penalty for it, get know, get different rewards depending on what kind of player you are (ganked or ganker killers), there's people doing the normal stuff such as gathering, leveling etc, while in instanced it's with objectives with pve-elements, like capture/secure, destroy crystals etc

    That would probably be included too, but just a duel option alone is bad due to class balance, Warrior is seriously overpowered in PVP, and SMN burst is also insane, there's not enough balance for a duel option.

    I don't see a reason to have a PvP server, it would probably attract all of 100 people or so. If a PvP server existed, it should work like Diadem, not a whole world you can just transfer to. PvP is a side thing, not a main thing. In any case, most likely this won't be realized so I suggest you go play B&S.

    Open world pvp get its charm for letting people do solo hunts etc. I don't know if FFXIV combat system works for that. Only a few classes would be able to do that due to, like you said, "bad balance between classes".
    There would become this Meta where people only run this and that job during PvP. But that's all just my own opinion. I know there are alot of games out there that I havn't played with open world PvP much better than those I've played.
