You do know there are people who protect low levels right? Every game I've played where there was open world PvP, I would sit there and wait for high levels to come and attack the low levels. When they came, I would kill them over and over again until they left the low levels alone. They bring friends? No problem, I'll kill their buddy too. I'm sure there are others who have done the same thing.

This, i was ganked a lot back when Aion was paid (i never reached max level because it died and went F2P), i would warn in chat and all the high levels would come help and kill the invader, when i got to level 40 (not max) i started to help low levels instead of leveling, it was fun and i felt rewarded for doing it.

I've added few things to the main post about how it could work so it's not very punishing.

Please don't compare open world pvp with what we have, it's just not the same, open world PVP wouldn't imply GC barriers like we have now, there would be no queues, sorry but this is a dumb argument.

It's just REALLY impractical right now.
It didn't happen with any open world pvp game i've played, why would it happen with FFXIV?

I've edited the main post with some ideas.

But wouldn't it be the same in the end really? If you want them to enforce teamplay then it's just like the PvP we have now except GC restrictionan (and queues). Groups of players running around fighting other groups. The only real difference would be that there are no nodes to capture to secure points.

And where in the world/story of FFXIV would open world PvP fit in? What is the reason why people would run around mindlessly slaughter one another? Other games with open world PvP have a background to why each faction fights. Don't forget that this is an RPG (RolePlaying Game) so can't just throw things in because you feel like it, it also have to fit in.

I would much rather that they added a Duel system. It's more common that adventurers testet their skills with each others than slaugher one another for no reason.

How is it the same when you're comparing instanced pvp vs open world pvp? You don't have the freedom, what we have now is smash the head against the keyboard pvp, with objectives, in open world there's no objectives, you attack whoever you want and get rewarded/penalty for it, get know, get different rewards depending on what kind of player you are (ganked or ganker killers), there's people doing the normal stuff such as gathering, leveling etc, while in instanced it's with objectives with pve-elements, like capture/secure, destroy crystals etc

That would probably be included too, but just a duel option alone is bad due to class balance, Warrior is seriously overpowered in PVP, and SMN burst is also insane, there's not enough balance for a duel option.

Open world pvp get its charm for letting people do solo hunts etc. I don't know if FFXIV combat system works for that. Only a few classes would be able to do that due to, like you said, "bad balance between classes".
There would become this Meta where people only run this and that job during PvP. But that's all just my own opinion. I know there are alot of games out there that I havn't played with open world PvP much better than those I've played.

So picture this, if you will: We meet in the PvP zone, and instead of fighting, we decide to pair up. I'll be your AST. We proceed to hunt down several other players, maybe even other pairs that are trying to do what we're doing. We're close to whatever rewards we want, so we decide to hit a sanctuary and break for a bit. . .

That's when I immediately drop party, Asp-Bene myself, use the Balance I held, Roaded for more potency, Celestial Opp you, Disable you, then gank you with help from a buddy I was talking to in TS the whole time, whom I arranged to have waiting for us there. Thanks for the rewards!

    So FUN, right?

Why would i pair with a random person to begin with?

Let's say that even happens, lesson learned, what's the point of your example? Something that happens once? Yeah fun indeed.

I suppose you never played any open world pvp game based on what you said, so i'll end our chat here.

Change the example to an impish guild mate then. I got to listen in TS to a rage session after a fellow guildie was typhoon'd to his doom by one of our druids on the timeless isle in WoW after having worked together for the previous hour. His reasoning? He thought it would be funny. And I suppose for the rest of us it was.

No real point here btw. That's not a reason to not have the server. Just that it doesn't have to be a rando.

Do you generally just think of the worst possible scenario for things?

To answer your question, Robbie, I play and rather enjoy both Tera and Blade & Soul. Enjoyed The Dark Zone in the Division at least when my friends still played it. Don't try to discredit or write me off as someone who hasn't played anything with open world PvP.

And Seoulstar, No, I'm not so inclined to think of worst case scenarios, but consider this: I'm not a low/conniving enough player to do something like that, and I thought that up. . . What do you think a player who is that conniving might possibly come up with?
