Then it wouldn't fit any MMO with it.
Obviously it would be an PvP dedicated server.
Maybe, but Yoshi said he wants it to happen, i'm sure they can come up with something.
it will be better if a request was sent that another player wanted to do battle

The only thing this would achieve is making getting anywhere a complete pain in the ass, in a much more prominent way than in WoW due to the smaller zones.
The size comparison of the mapping in FF14 and the mapping in WoW is a little too vast. WoW is built specifically for both PvE and PvP, while FF14 is built specifically for PvE, with PvP being put to the side with its own series of modes. If you were to enable a PvP server, then you can forget about making any progress, as the areas are far too small to have anyone not resort to camping entrance points (intentionally or not), as any other part of the map is sprinkled with monsters. The fun is taken out of it, when you feel like you're being spoon fed handicapped situations, no matter where you engage a player from.
You could argue the exception of Heavensward. But who would make a PvP server, just specifically for a portion of what the game has to offer?
I just really don't see this happening especially because the open world zones are designed as hubs for MSQ events and travel. I don't want to be in a cutscene standing in the middle of Thanalan only to come out of the cutscene dead because someone killed me on sight.
Just no. LOL
You do know there are people who protect low levels right? Every game I've played where there was open world PvP, I would sit there and wait for high levels to come and attack the low levels. When they came, I would kill them over and over again until they left the low levels alone. They bring friends? No problem, I'll kill their buddy too. I'm sure there are others who have done the same thing. The main issue would be what would stop it from becoming like WoW and having high level players murder/death/kill all the newbies? Seriously Red Ridge Mountains/Westfall and Crossroads are practically unusable since it's either the NPC's are killed or the players are camped into the stone age.
This, i was ganked a lot back when Aion was paid (i never reached max level because it died and went F2P), i would warn in chat and all the high levels would come help and kill the invader, when i got to level 40 (not max) i started to help low levels instead of leveling, it was fun and i felt rewarded for doing it.You do know there are people who protect low levels right? I've added few things to the main post about how it could work so it's not very punishing.
Please don't compare open world pvp with what we have, it's just not the same, open world PVP wouldn't imply GC barriers like we have now, there would be no queues, sorry but this is a dumb argument.Consider this: We can barely get people to queue for the current PvP modes as is. . . What makes you think creating a dedicated open world map would suddenly kindle flames in players to go PvP? Add to that, it would only further cripple the current modes, which ARE actually entertaining (for those that don't know or haven't tried).
It didn't happen with any open world pvp game i've played, why would it happen with FFXIV?As it stands, open world PvP would go just as avoided/ignored as current modes, and only the people that already enjoy it might try it, which would only pull us all away from current modes. For others, if it were a means of equipping gear/switching statuses/changing to or from targetable jobs, most simply wouldn't make themselves a target. . . The idea is not bad. It's just REALLY impractical right now.
I've edited the main post with some ideas.

But wouldn't it be the same in the end really? If you want them to enforce teamplay then it's just like the PvP we have now except GC restrictionan (and queues). Groups of players running around fighting other groups. The only real difference would be that there are no nodes to capture to secure points.
And where in the world/story of FFXIV would open world PvP fit in? What is the reason why people would run around mindlessly slaughter one another? Other games with open world PvP have a background to why each faction fights. Don't forget that this is an RPG (RolePlaying Game) so can't just throw things in because you feel like it, it also have to fit in.
I would much rather that they added a Duel system. It's more common that adventurers testet their skills with each others than slaugher one another for no reason.
How is it the same when you're comparing instanced pvp vs open world pvp? You don't have the freedom, what we have now is smash the head against the keyboard pvp, with objectives, in open world there's no objectives, you attack whoever you want and get rewarded/penalty for it, get know, get different rewards depending on what kind of player you are (ganked or ganker killers), there's people doing the normal stuff such as gathering, leveling etc, while in instanced it's with objectives with pve-elements, like capture/secure, destroy crystals etcBut wouldn't it be the same in the end really? If you want them to enforce teamplay then it's just like the PvP we have now except GC restrictionan (and queues). Groups of players running around fighting other groups. The only real difference would be that there are no nodes to capture to secure points.
That would probably be included too, but just a duel option alone is bad due to class balance, Warrior is seriously overpowered in PVP, and SMN burst is also insane, there's not enough balance for a duel option.

To save time, I've linked my response to the last time this was mentioned. And to clarify, I'm not against the idea, but I'm all too aware of how impractical it currently is.
